Glitch in the system

Yeah, I noticed several cans of worms I opened there. I intended on making a simple distinction between descriptive and prescriptive definitions. Got a little out of hand :D

Anyway, one isn’t better than the other. They’re just different. Not sure if I clarified that.

With discussions on ‘art’ for instance, I try and stick to being descriptive. I feel comfortable describing how I see art existing in the world. But I don’t feel comfortable arguing how I believe art ‘ought’ to be existing in the world. The enigmatic expressiveness that comes from being unlimited by conceptual boundaries is part of what makes art, art. Defining it would break it.

With something like ‘morality’, though, you have to be prescriptive. Especially in terms of legal theory. Ethics is all about defining what we ‘ought’ to do in the interactive world.

Virtue is interesting. It relies on both kinds of definitions. It’s about much more than ‘oughts’. Virtue gives us the ‘how’ and ‘why’ for our oughts. And it isn’t only applicable in the external world. It concerns the inner life of human beings just as much as the outer one.

I guess this (definition, meaning, and understanding) turned out to be the discussion instead of the preface I intended. It happens

I wish there'd be some news happening finally, its been so quiet for so long, dont you think? I dont know if its cause of summer or what? Some genuine doom would feel alright.
