I wonder if they are violating zoning laws?

They rent some of the property to tenants who have built small houses or brought in trailers, charging some as little as $1,000 a year.

They live off the earnings from the land and worry that a fence would deter renters and turn their property into a “no man’s land.”

Hmmm... yeah. Not smart to draw attention to oneself with zoning issues. Should have stayed under the radar. Not to mention, ICE may like to drop in and have a look around.

The wall is one piece of the border security puzzle not the only piece. There needs to be more Border Patrolman, DPS officers and technology. It all goes together as a system.

Also, Washington needs to remove the financial incentive for the invasion. No more anchor babies, no more public assistance, prosecute employers who employee illegals.

The wall WILL stop the average illegal but will only slow down the determined criminal, thats the way crime and law enforcement works.

You think airport security is 100%? The determined criminal actor will find a way to penetrate.

As for those property owners that do not want to co operate well run the wall right up to their property and wait on the court case and in the meantime see where the new trail of illegals flow.

REMEMBER THE ALAMO?

Under President Antonio López de Santa Anna, the Mexican government began to shift away from a federalist model. The increasingly dictatorial policies, including the revocation of the Constitution of 1824 in early 1835, incited many federalists to revolt.[6] The border region of Mexican Texas was largely populated by immigrants from the United States. These people were accustomed to a federalist government and to extensive individual rights, and they were quite vocal in their displeasure at Mexico's shift towards centralism.[7] Already suspicious after previous American attempts to purchase Mexican Texas,[8] Mexican authorities blamed much of the Texian unrest on American immigrants, most of whom had made little effort to adapt to the Mexican culture.[9] [link to en.wikipedia.org (secure)]

We have come full circle.

Mexico wants Texas back.

History shows that Mexico encouraged settlement by Americans in the then, Mexican Texas region, IN HOPES THAT THEY WOULD DRIVE OUT THE American NATIVES who were causing trouble for the Mexicans!

When Americans began settling in areas other than what Mexico intended however, their plan fell apart. Nor were American settlers in the region willing to live under a dictatorship.

BASICALLY WHAT I SEE GOING ON HERE IS MEXICO WANTS TEXAS AND CALIFORNIA BACK AND DEMOCRATS ARE WILLING TO GIVE REPARATIONS AND CONCESSIONS RATHER THAN FIGHT TO PRESERVE OUR REPUBLIC.

Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it. America isn't for sale at any price, because if it is, then it isn't America any longer.

To the People of Texas & All Americans in the World:

Fellow citizens & compatriots—I am besieged, by a thousand or more of the Mexicans under Santa Anna—I have sustained a continual Bombardment & cannonade for 24 hours & have not lost a man. The enemy has demanded a surrender at discretion, otherwise, the garrison are to be put to the sword, if the fort is taken—I have answered the demand with a cannon shot, & our flag still waves proudly from the walls. I shall never surrender or retreat. Then, I call on you in the name of Liberty, of patriotism & everything dear to the American character, to come to our aid, with all dispatch—The enemy is receiving reinforcements daily & will no doubt increase to three or four thousand in four or five days. If this call is neglected, I am determined to sustain myself as long as possible & die like a soldier who never forgets what is due to his own honor & that of his country—Victory or Death.

P.S. The Lord is on our side—When the enemy appeared in sight we had not three bushels of corn—We have since found in deserted houses 80 or 90 bushels & got into the walls 20 or 30 head of Beeves. [link to en.wikipedia.org (secure)]

This jackass said he 'wouldn't accept millions' if the government compensated him for eminent domain.

He's making a political statement. Just another virtue signaling libtard.

He actually said, "...a trillion dollars." The man owns 64 acres, probably not worth more than a couple hundred thousand, if that, and that's all he's gonna get when the government condemns his migrant ranch.

First thing that crossed my mind is how much are these people are getting to turn a blind eye to illegals walking through their property.

How will they like it when 99% of the wall is erected and all that illegal traffic is funneled through their properties? Are they planning to set up taco stands and pay-per-poop porta-potties to make a profit?

HIDALGO, Texas (AP) — As President Donald Trump travels to the border in Texas to make the case for his $5.7 billion wall, landowner Eloisa Cavazos says she knows firsthand how the project will play out if the White House gets its way.

I guess if the Dems don't want a wall, we could always Obama Northern mexico, you know invade it without congressional approval, kill a bunch of people who have nothing to do with the actual issue and then pat ourselves on the back about it? Mexico gets narrower every mile south you go, sounds like a discount on walls to me.

I mean there has to be a town or some place called 'Lybia' somewhere around there right??

PPS: I'd say the battle outcome proved that the Lord was NOT on their side!

Having said that, Mexico DOES want that territory -and much more- back. Thankfully they are an inherantly lazy peple when it comes to fighting for what they want; troops will sell themselves out to the highest bidder [a practice going back to the days of Juarez] with no regard for the reason behind their fighting. Their military buys obsolete equipment and then conducts shoddy training to their troops on how to use same. Compound all of that will their incredibly corrupt military command and you have an army that today can be defeated very easily. They only took down the Alamo through using a massive number of troops who attacked a small, very tired -but brave- group of men who were willing to die for their beliefs and their Republic. I'd LOVE to see Mexico try to invade the U.S. with their military - it would be something Texans could brag about for generations to come!
