DHS official: Border security bill does not contain ‘amnesty’ poison pills
Hmm?

SNIP

"a DHS official told Fox News that terms like "potential sponsor" have precise meanings in Department of Homeland Security regulations -- meanings that severely limit the number of people the budget keeps safe from deportation."

Further, because the bill only applies to kids who are unaccompanied, it does not provide protection for those bringing kids into the US.

Another major alleged “poison pill” that may be misunderstood is a clause requiring the federal government to "confer and seek to reach mutual agreement" with local governments before building any wall.

The Center for Immigration Studies, which favors lower immigration levels, tweeted that “the spending bill would give local governments in the Rio Grande (all of which are *heavily* Democratic) the ability to veto the fence. If those blue municipalities don't agree with DHS, the fence can't get built.”

But the DHS official told Fox News on background that the exact language in the budget -- "confer and seek to reach mutual agreement" – nowhere requires the federal government to actually reach an agreement before building fences.

Rather, it just requires DHS to consult with local governments – something DHS already generally does, the official noted.

Tucked inside the new spending bill is a new deportation amnesty that security experts fear will lead to a new surge of illegal immigrant children smuggled to the border.

The provision in Section 224 of the Homeland Security portion of the bill, creates a loophole in immigration enforcement, giving a safe harbor to illegal immigrants who say they’re willing to take Unaccompanied Alien Children into their homes

It puts hundreds of thousands of people off limits for deportation,” said Jessica Vaughan, policy studies director at the Center for Immigration Studies.

The provision, sought by Democrats, grows out of the increasingly thorny situation of the tens of thousands of children whose parents pay to smuggle them into the U.S. each year to reunite with their families.

Under existing policy, the children are usually processed and quickly released to sponsors — often the very parents or relatives who paid to smuggle them and, in most cases, who are in the U.S. illegally themselves.

‌
Under the Trump administration, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement had been conducting legal status checks on households where children were to be placed and had begun to try to deport some people found to be here illegally.

The new provision would ban that.

The new provision applies not only to households that already sponsor a child — more than 200,000 children have already been released into the U.S. — but also to “prospective” households, meaning those that might take a child in eventually.

“If you don’t have a kid here yet to protect you from deportation this is a huge incentive to hire a criminal smuggler to bring your child here,” Ms. Vaughan said.

It’s not clear who qualifies as a “prospective family,” but Rosemary Jenks, government relations manager at NumbersUSA, predicted liberal-leaning judges will create an expansive protection for illegal immigrants.

Unless of course Trump utilizes his broad powers under the latest (and previous) National Emergency declaration(s). One of which our friend Oblahblah enacted under his watch, that continues to remain in force to this day.

That said, given the very real crisis on our border (that the media cannot hide from the public anymore, no matter how hard they try), and given Trump’s history of very effectively wielding his Executive authority over these last two years, do you actually think he won’t “do what he says” this time?

If you haven’t noticed, he’s been working under the previous declaration already these past two years. He just expanded those powers on Friday.
Within the surreal depths of "reality" lies the truth.

For example, to be a "potential sponsor" according to the DHS regulations, one must file significant paperwork -- such as showing ID (U.S. or foreign) and proof of residency. The adult applying must also submit documents about the child.

I'd like to know what kind of documents are needed for the child. And why this DHS "official" is not named.

As far as an ID, and proof of residence, those are very easily obtained by illegals, at least in California.

It's also worthwhile to note, that this "official" is only correcting the potential sponsor wording. So, we can assume that sponsors are still exempt from deportation.

Oh, and for the record, the definition of unaccompanied minor includes any child brought over by a parent. As soon as they are removed from their parents, they are legally "unaccompanied".

This was put in the bill to make sure illegals who claim these children are not deported. Nothing else. In a 5 month period, ICE identified 80% of "sponsors", as undocumented.
