Anonymous Coward User ID: 77129501 United States 06/11/2019 10:29 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | THIS. As a U.S. Army Paratrooper, I exited in-flight aircraft 78 times at varying altitudes from 1,000-1,500 feet 78 times, with an additional under canopy drop from the 250 foot tower. Balancing on an under construction building at a height from which a fall would kill me? NO WAY IN HELL. I had to take a patient, who had been sandblasting, off of a 300' smoke stack. They were standing on a catwalk maybe 3' wide with a rail that hit me at the thighs. I still get a little sweaty thinking about it. |

Wordsworth That's why we can't compete, and we will never be able to compete. I had a safety nazi nearly throw me offsite a couple weeks ago for taking my gloves off so that I could start a screw by hand. Meanwhile, these motherfuckers are getting shit done. Long Duck Dong here in the video is gonna build that skyscraper in half the time and half the cost as we could, in fucking flip flops. People say OSHA saves lives, I say bullshit only for now. Their role should be to protect workers from being forced to do dangerous things at work AGAINST THEIR WILL. Once their mandate spread past that 20 years ago or so, they became the problem. The amount of lives lost when our economy finally collapses will exceed all the workplace deaths in the past 100 years. OSHA exists because of liability lawsuits. No, it was the communists who allowed the lawyers to pervert the law into making it possible for a worker to do something stupid and then sue his boss when he gets hurt. It was their vehicle to create an agency that can control people at work... they used other ploys to control people at home, school, and just about everywhere else. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 76322957 United States 06/12/2019 12:14 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I, along with many thousands spent decades a split second from a fatal "accident". It is not easy to get used to--crawl, walk, run. It takes some time. My wife would get excited/nervous when I showed her pictures from work. Quoting: Green Tabber I spent about 15 years in an industry working at these heights... it's funny I never looked at it that way until I was talking with a friend of mine who's a cop trying to figure out who had the more dangerous job. It wan't a dick measuring contest, we were honestly just trying to figure it out. And that's when I realized it's exactly how you put it... not that dangerous a job really but at the same time you are always just one slip or minor error away from instant death for 50-60 hours per week. There's a bell curve of danger doing work like this... at first it's dangerous because you're scared and not thinking straight. Then it's safer because you learn how to handle it but are still very vigilant. Then it's dangerous again because you're too comfortable with it, and aren't as careful. Like an old miner told me many years ago- there's two kinds of people that get maimed and killed here, the new guys who don't know any better and the old timers who literally get care-less. Complacency is a killer. |

Is it not totally illegal to be doing so without any safety harness at all. What is that man thinking? By the time he hits ground, he will be merely a little splash! Quoting: MaybeTrollingUAgain I adore "real men" who are defensive over their women, and protect women in general, and do all the hard things - if somebody has to go upon the roof, they do it. If there is a noise in the night, they handle it. They open doors for ladies, and pull out chairs, and help off and on with coats, and go to work every day, no matter what, and do all the dangerous things. I love these men!!! Men who do what the one in the video was doing - NOOOOOOO - that's not just manly - that's foolhardy!
