When you don't teach your child any common sense they get a degree in women's history of tampon use from 1505-1524, then they wonder why there is no job for them after they rack up 80k in student loans.

Re: Two-thirds of American employees regret their college degrees
20 years ago I went for STEM, at a division 3 school known for REAL job placement and a tech school/hands on atmosphere. My guidance counselor and a lot of people in my class turned their nose up at this claiming I should go to a more prestigious institution like a lot of my classmates.

To make a long story short, I ended school with $13000 of debt, and got a job in my field right out of school. Paid off that debt in a few years so it worked out well for me.

Almost none of my classmates got a job in their chosen, and some were $50,000 in debt. Keep in mind this was 20 years ago, today that would be $200,000 in debt.

Liberal Arts degrees are fine... IF you understand that you’ll need to continue school afterward, like say getting a law degree (J.D.).
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 74512300

You confuse education with vocational training.

You also overestimate the value of a law degree. You can get a law degree and end up sitting in the courthouse processing collections judgments on ambulance and tow truck debt.

But I thought pgilosophers, art historians and English literature teachers all earned 500K a year by age 30?
 Quoting: Turd Ferguson, Jr.

MA English lit here

i make more than 30 but less than 80k per year

I teach university

It isnt easy

But its not like building a goddam house

They make more cuz its fekin hard work

I will always have a job as long as the english language exists

But the folks in the gender studies dept?

They are already seeing the decline in degree applications

So to recap

College does pay

But other stuff pays more

Two-thirds of employees report regrets about their advanced degrees, as Americans question the high cost of higher education.
Student loan debt has ballooned to nearly $1.6 trillion nationwide in 2019, topping the list of regrets for employees.
Science, technology, engineering or math majors, who are more likely to enjoy higher salaries, were least likely to report regrets, while those in the humanities were most likely.

i would have loved to study some fruity feel good bullshit ~ but realized spending 200k to get a job that pays 20k doesn't work.

So I battled out an engineering degree. It sucked. i partied less than i wanted to.

and paid off my loans ahead of schedule.

CHOICES.

or take my brother who went into the trades. got his hands dirty, his balls busted - but he now makes $150,000 a year - no loans needed. Yeah he works with his hands and gets dirty ~ snowflakes need not apply there either.

Our daughter is also working her way through college - (almost done with BS in Math (she wants' to teach HS / (and will Ace the teaching credential test))// it can be done!! No debt!! It just takes longer, and requires discipline. It helps to live in an area that is affordable, (and get roommates). We lived incredibly low cost. We had fun doing it too! Re: Two-thirds of American employees regret their college degrees
THE GOVERNMENT does not give 18-21-year-olds guaranteed loans to buy a house, or, to start a business.

Yet, they gave these nondischargeable loans to Ritalin/Soy generation kids.

I'm a conservative.

I'm a tradesman.

I have 3 degrees. (no debt)

Not one of my degrees prepared me to be an entrepreneur. In each case, I paid a lot of money to be an employee

Public universities didn't cost 250,000 in 1983-1987. The system is broken. The kids were sold a fraudulent bill of goods.

The university system is being used to sell out the United States, flip demographics, and give away an American birthright to foreigners.

They are sacrificing American kids on the altar to underwrite the debt.

You almost had your hooks in me didn't you dear
You nearly had me roped and tied
Altar-bound, hypnotized

Pay attention to that word "Hypnotized"

The people who pushed abortions have also figured out that if you put kids in insurmountable debt by 21, they will delay getting married and having kids.

They bailed out the bankers. Its time to bail out, if nothing changes, our last American generation.
 Quoting: visitor 76197297

Fuck no its not unless you are willing to bail out the mortgages of those that don't have a college debt also. I'll be damned if I have to pay taxes to bail out some dumb ass Libtard that now regrets forking out money for a useless degree that will only get him an entry level job.

Shit I saw the writing on the walls when professors were basically passing out answers to the test and that others would outright cheat and the professors would allow it. Meaning there is no fucking accomplishment in a college degree these days. Shit they might as well just issue a degree when a cough cough student just writes them a check and get rid of the bullshit show of giving people an education.

Re: Two-thirds of American employees regret their college degrees
An advanced degree would imply a masters or doctorate which does increase the cost of college.

This all depends on which college you attended, your degree field, the total cost of the degree, and the date on which a degree was earned.

The cost of a degree differs based on the date the degree was earned.

If i earned the same degree in 2018 vs 2006 the cost would be at least double.

That is very significant cost rise

I went into trade too, culinary. Cheap degree two years associate for 4k total.
No debt. I got a executive. Chef job 2 years ago and make about 60k a year. Not tremendous money but I would say ahead of average. Just turn 32 and I plan for my house to be paid off by 40.

Before I decided that though I had plan to go towards mechanical engineering.

I know a highly qualified engineer who works for a multinational company. He went to a meeting the other day about 5g. He came back to work the next day very depressed. He said that the meeting was full of people 25 years his junior ( he's about 50) who were all speaking a language he didn't understand. He really could not even follow the meeting. He said he realized that despite his qualifications, outside of his present situation, he is now obsolete.

My 4-year degree was a waste of money.

I've learned more job skills and information on my own with the Internet.

It's criminal giving out 150K loans to 18-year-olds who have no clue what they are doing, with no guarantee they will get a job in that field 4 years down the road, especially taking loans out for degrees like gender studies.

Go to a trade school for 2 years and be qualified for actual work, learning information is free online.

Of course, I've told my son, over and over. If you're going to college, it's on scholarships and the money you earn to pay for it. Ergo, he's in a state school and has numerous academic scholarships.

He also has certificates from our regional vo-tech in carpentry and electrical trades. He keeps his OSHA 10 current. And works construction in the summers and does machinate at the college part-time.

There is always good paying work for US citizen engineers in the defense sector. There are some things that just can't be outsourced for security reasons.

And say what you will about our security clearance investigation standards, but defense employers always favor the ones who are most likely to get a clearance quickly. It's literal money down the drain for them.

i have degrees in Comp Engineering, Psych/Pre-Med, and a worthless MD degree. Took me 20 years of hard work for the MD degree and even though I passed the boards, I could not get a residency ( Im a white male, not Arab, Asian or Hindu). Im telling the truth, Im cleaning toilets for 10$ per hour now since I want the least involvement in this corrupt system as possible.

What choices? Many of us were simply tossed out on the street at 18, and college was only paid for so they could count us as dependents. There was no preparation, and no choice was allowed.
My late boyfriend starved at his college for two weeks before he could finally get a work study job and have some food. Since the work study program would let cafeteria workers have all the soda they wanted but no food,he drank soda till he passed out cold on the floor.Shortly after he would develop diabetes.
Be glad you had choices, instead of just being homeless at college.
