I like what you're saying here. It's no longer OK to be awesome.

Years of corrupting the meaning of supposed tolerance and supposed compassion are at the root of much of that.

I've likened people stroking their "I feel your pain" biases as similar to that of pimps and hookers exploiting the nature of guys' need to get off.

Re: Random American High School in 1989: Such vitality, happiness, vigor...What happened to us?
Growing up me and my friends in the UK were so jealous of American High Schools...the fact they had no uniforms, everyone drove cars, partied all the time, huge sports fields, we all thought it was like the high school movies we used to watch.

we even had "Smoking Area's" ..... lol

 Quoting: Lupe_Ate_My_Taco's

Some people have said that the video only shows the cool kids and leaves out the outcasts. That may be true, but it's not about which kids are portrayed. It's about the time period and the different culture, etc.

I would say that I was an outcast. Definitely not cool because I was poor and in a foster home, but even then, whenever I moved all I had to do was find the smoking section and that's where you'd find the people that didn't play the popularity game. Maybe we were all outcasts, but we created a small outpost where everyone was accepted. Granted, a lot of them were just stoners, but not all.

It's funny to remember that we had Smoking Areas at school. I remember defying authority by looking at the lunch guard and stepping one foot over the painted line that separated the smoking area from the non-smoking area during lunch to see if he would bust me.

To smoke pot, we had to go further away, out to the baseball diamond where we'd smoke pot out of an empty soda can or an apple carved into a pipe that we thought was a brilliant disguise. lol

The uncool kids.

They never got past the phase of being an outcast, which is why they became SJWs and went into promoting victim politics.

They never learned that maybe they were unpopular because they were lacking in myriad personality traits like charm, wit, or developing any interests, or taking an interest in other people. Instead of working on themselves, they became Champions Of The Oppressed.

The "Uncool" kids still had their own group and they thought they were pretty cool among themselves.

You had the "Jocks" who were all about sports.
The "Heads" who were the stoners, smokers, leather jacket types.
The "Geeks" who were the brainiac book worms, chess clubbers.
The "Rockers" who were into music, probably in a band.
There really was something for anyone and a lot of groups had crossover.

You could be a leather jacket stoner and be in a band with a geek, or a jock and work on your car with the motor heads.

Now, all these traits, groups etc. are being suppressed because of the PC victim hood culture.

Cry bullies rule the day now.

I only see a lot of young people trying to self-portrait themselves and trying to grasp everyone's attention. Egoism combined with proudness are at the beginning of each downfall...
 Quoting: Theodesus

Because parents alternated between neglecting them and spoiling them.

So the grow up emotionally needy, almost to a point of desperation, but they expect when they do get attention, all they get is intense and immediate attention and then basically told to go away again.

They don't know how to develop reasons for people to pay attention to them, like learning to play an instrument well, or being good in sport, or some other talent, nor do they learn to be genuinely independent.

I don't hold them in contempt, I feel really sorry for them. Many of them show signs of deep emotional trauma. I think they didn't get enough genuine mother's love as small children, only forced 'quality time' or given any toy they wanted by way of compensation.

Too many parents thought they could buy their kids instead of engaging with them.

Casual flirting and teenage courtship with the female gender is now considered to be brutal rape and sexual exploitation.

Dating is no longer a social interaction to experiment with potential romantic relationships. Dating now begins with homosexual ass play and sharing explicit photos with as many deviant predators as possible.

There is something turning males into this soy boi gender confused semi retarded bony stick.

The world is run by an evil criminal cabal.

This criminal cabal feels more safely entrenched in wealth and power, the more they degrade our youth, our cultures, our communities, our values, our relationships... Our Souls.

And since this criminal cabal is evil, they have to qualms about knowingly and intentionally and methodically doing just that.

Another good point.

The crackdown on smoking was yet another means by which the powers that people managed to create socially isolated people.

I was a smoker back then too, not a heavy one, but it was the easiest way to break the ice with a stranger - got a light?

Maybe it never was all that bad for people's health? That industrial pollutants are behind much of the cancer, and smokers were TOO social for the likes of the powers that be?

yeah see it , kind a sad , me 50 year old guy. The 80's wasn't perfect but so much more human. People slowly turn into zombies. Even kids , parties , no eye contact. Just watching their phone. Can't understand their moral or humor , even my own generation. Something is missing call it the human factor it's sad.

No the 80's wasn't perfect , people dumb as bricks but still people. sometimes full of energy. As an empatic kid I could feel the energy of people now it feels dead , synthetic , not-alive , like mental zombies living in phones. Maybe it's just me , oh god let it just be me...

Re: Random American High School in 1989: Such vitality, happiness, vigor...What happened to us?
Simple answer. Liberals, Democraps, homosexuals and minorities have done it to us.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78299788

The first group you list tends to make up a high percentage of the other groups.

However, the percentage of Democrats who are of the left is probably a bit higher than that of homosexuals and minorities of the left too.

There are people like Milo Yiannapolous and Tammy Bruce. Or conservatives/non-liberals who are homosexual. There are people like Candace Owens and Ben Carson. Or conservatives/non-liberals who are black.

But admittedly homosexuality or black and Third-World cultures tend to a breeding ground for a lot of social, political liberalism.

Because the majority of kids today have a "Social fear" that breeds that anxiety that just didn't exist at the level now that it did then.

A lot of it comes from social media.

Another thing occurs to me about that time. We didn't really know anything about news or politics. Not unless it was a huge story that had everyone talking about it, like the Challenger blowing up.

I think kids today can't escape the news and politics, and even worse, the identity politics.
