I have noticed that when a person claims the bolded words in your post, there is really no sense in trying to talk reason to them. Its almost like they are in some sort of cult. You want a literal interpretation of the bible and can not fathom they it may contain other information that is buried on another layer, even when confronted with glaring inconsistencies.
