Re: Harvesting Cannabis in the Back Yard
Did you check the trichomes with a loupe? I would hazard a guess that you harvested a bit too early.

It is important to harvest as late as possible because those last weeks are when they put on the most weight. Earlier you harvest, the more heady a high you get vs a later harvest more body high.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79476748

Surprisingly or not, lots of people like to harvest early to prevent being stuck on the couch all day. When the trichomes are cloudy and just one or two look darker is when they harvest.

You need to grow right out of the ground.
Make a wire basket so the gophers cannot get them
Plant earlier in the year so they have longer to veg. and get begger.
I grow outdoor in northern california.
My clones were in the ground beginning of april.
I grow 5-7ft plants averaging 1lb per plant.
My record yield was over 2lbs from a 7+ft monster
Your planter box’s are way too small, limiting your potential yield.
And yes, you are pulling too early...those buds are airy and small.

But keep going you’ll only get better

i know people who do this, and i will keep a couple of mothers indoor for cloning.

honestly though, i think weed picks up the 'vibrations' around it and stores those in its crystals.. do you want a claustrophobic suffocating kind of stone, or do you want a chat with gaia's nubile green daughters?

this is why i prefer good organic outdoor grow
 Quoting: OpenHeartMonk

If you want to harvest a 1/4lb every harvest, ok.

Outdoor.
PVC Hoop house
Supplemental light
Light-depo

Control the light cycle like indoor, but grow big outdoor.
Harvest 4 times a year with big yeilds

i'm trying it both ways this time:

some i've hung to dry.
some went straight into jars.

i'm going to agree though, i'm having huge condensation issues with the jars right now, moved a lot of that bud to glass cake pans lined with paper towel.

chop your plants

hang them upside down to dry for about 2 weeks

trim and jar as needed, canning jars that is, lids seal the product

open jars once per day for a few minutes to breath

three or four weeks will suffice, product is now cured

I don't use anything except water that last month. I use fox farms nutrients but just half what the bottle says add silica and lots of calcium. Dawn dish soap is my secret weapon for pests. Should have taken better pics, the plant was huge like a small tree though. You should look at those big cloth pots on Amazon. Big roots make big flowers and lots of them.

when plants are hanging upside down after chopping, it's important to provide good air movement, fans are a good thing

to be clear, lack of air movement in any growing stage can reduce the end quality and yield, but "wet" bud hanging to dry is vulnerable to mold and/or getting a hay smell

forgot to mention a great way to test if your plants are ready for trim

you'll notice that the stems on the fan leaves are supple and pliable when first cut

as you move along in time the same leaves now become stiffer and reach a point where you can actually snap them off the stalk

when you can cleanly snap a fan leaf off of the stalk, you most likely can begin the trimming and jarring process
