Good ole SPAM, how do you fix it?
We started buying some for shtf and hadn’t had any since we were kids.

Opened a can, sliced it sorta thin, fried it in pan till nicely toasted on both sides. Add either some brown sugar on top or maple syrup and cook about 30 seconds, flip and repeat.

If you put on the sugar in the beginning it’ll burn so wait till end.

This stuff is delicious this way and tastes like sweet thick bacon, yum, and cheap!

Ooooo, looks goood!

I think the trick is frying it up, crisping it brings out the flavor and looks and has a totally different texture from when you open the can.

It's not bad with BBQ sauce. When I was a kid, we were glad we had spam to eat.

Well...it is good different ways, but believe me, try it fried with a little sweetener and the stuff tastes like ham candy! Yummy for the tummy, not the healthiest thing on the planet, but YUMMY!

I would add fresh celery, onion and green onion, and garlic and shrimp to make that really yummy!

Yup, us too. Dad died when I was a kid, went through hard, thin times, but we loved my mom’s sweet fried spam. Comfort food, coming back, to comfort again perhaps, through rough times.

Use it like ham in bean or potato like soups. One can will flavor near 2 gallons of soup.

I didn't like potted meat growing up as that was some pretty rank offal, but was GLAD to eat a vienna sausage sandwich. People got too uppity. They pretend they are rich when most are poor due to inflation.

People need to be honest and live frugally.

Re: Good ole SPAM, how do you fix it?
Spam, Beans and Onions.

I cut it into small 1/4" cubes.
Put it in a cast iron skillet and fry it till the edges just start to blacken,

Then cut up some onion and add to the pan till it goes slightly clear.

Then add a can of red kidney beans (after rinsing of the "juice".

Stir it up and serve.

It's delicious!

Re: Good ole SPAM, how do you fix it?
Only way I've ever eaten Spam is to slice it thin, fry it crisp, then put it between two pieced of white bread. With mustard. You gotta have the mustard.

Its primitive but effective.

I guess this proves that secretly alot of us are eating spam and of course thats why its been popular and for sale so long.

Something in a can that’ll keep is also very important in these turbulent times.

Adding diced Spam to Mac and cheese is decent as well.

You don’t even have to do all that ..

Just flip it over and squeeze the ends so the sides flare out

OH HEY

recently learned a good tip for those who like caramelized onions-

add a tiny bit of baking soda- it speeds up the process significantly.

Only way to do it is thinly sliced and fried to crisp. Otherwise it is cat food.
