I'm still on the road, amazing experience. I left an environment where I was a fairly wise conversationalist and financially stable...to a place where I was the dumbest, the most financially unstable and the most humiliated. I'm still cowarding back into my mind realizing how literally ignorant and poor I am in the groups of people I've met. Surely, the most notable aspect of my introductions will be how stupid I am.
Laugh at me please.
This was pretty hard to ignore.
I'll share the most deafening faux pas: I was meeting a group of Tiger Moth pilots (beautiful planes) from New Zealand. All incredible plane enthusiasts, rich, omg. I was chatting with one of the wives who dressed and sounded like a southern country woman, flowery frock, ugly shoes, yeah, I've been to the beach with the likes from the southern stateside (always nice and silly)..SO...she told me she had dairy farm. I said, wonderful, do you sell anything online? She, said oh no, we have about 3,000 cattle spread around several farms. So, I did the math, that alone is about $4M worth of cows, not to mention the land, income from production. She shared with her friends how cute it was, that I wanted to purchase some of her products. (slump) It went down further from that...Oh yeah, I'm an idiot, and the room was full of amazing entrepreneurs and women.
The take away was that I was given a humiliating public indoctrination with a dozen more and they gave me a round of cheer.

And Para, how are those grits different from fried mush, or polenta? I have never had a grit.

I stopped home for lunch...tomatoes and lettuce are from our garden.

I know mush is cornmeal or scrapple is you mix in pork or sausage.

Grits are coarser and made from white corn.

I had to look up polenta. It's yellow and says it's more course than grits.

Nice bacon layer!

Don't you ever feel less than, dear pool. Naivete is not the same as being stupid. And yes, sometimes it is humbling to find oneself in the company of people one feels are somehow superior in wealth or intellect, but honestly. Most everyone is just faking it. I had to go to a fancy 'science party' with scientists from all over the globe - published, famous science types. And also very wealthy people who were going to be patrons for this major science project. And the more I listened, the more I realized how little all of them really knew. And having manners, I certainly did not call anyone out on this, especially as I found it more reassuring than anything.

But I did gravitate unknowingly towards the likely most wealthy and most intelligent scientist in the room...who was sitting in a corner, all by themselves, reading a book. Alone. (The only thing better to me is hiding in a back bedroom with the household pet for company). I did not know who they were. I literally sat on the rug next to their chair and picked up a book too and then a child came over and I read the child a children's book, and then we all put a puzzle together me, the famous brilliant rich person, and the child who belonged to some random scientist. And that person made a big donation to the foundation sending a note about how lovely the party was. chuckle

Re: Food with Attitude!
The local police shot a huge rattlesanke hanging out by my condo on the mountain today. First shot I heard made me draw my weapon. Some guy renting one of the condos in the building called it in. By the time I stepped out on my deck the officer and rattler were one and the same target. Then he fired the second shot. I ran down, asking if I could keep it, and was flat out refused (I was thinking of a bare wall where it would hang nicely, once dried). I think the guy wanted to arrest me.

I thought of this thread, of course. First, because I wanted to post photos - though I still have no idea how to use Imgur- so no photos, unless someone cares to share on my behalf. But secondly, because I got to thinking about food. It was strange, but somewhere along the 20-minute ordeal, one of my thoughts was that I should save/preserve it in case of future nutritional needs. I wasn’t really sure about eating snake, though I know there’s an abundance available out there. So I did a little reading, and the take-away seems to be that most just consume snakes only under survival conditions.

This happened on the same day I saw news about British Columbia sales at BP stations of larvettes and crick-ettes. Not uncommon, even in the USA. The production company is US-based, but it remains to be seen where the ingredients are sourced.

What did the cop do with the snake? I don't see why you couldn't keep it.

Do you have an imgur account? If not, go to [link to imgur.com (secure)] and create one. It's pretty easy to post photos on there from the computer or your phone.

To put the photo on GLP, you need to click on it and then if you hover in the upper right corner of your photo a 'copy link' button will appear and you can click on it, then paste it on your post. You can either highlight it, and then click the 'imgur' button at the top of the window you are typing in. Or you can click the button, paste your link, and click the button again. Your image should appear.

Hope that helps!

Para dear, the cop threw the snake over the ridge and into the woods - at the applause of all the spectators in the "residences". Claimed the snake could still bite until after sundown. He wasn't a bad guy, even a local boy as it turns out. But in not so many words he told me he had to do his job. You know, because covid.

Fixed it for ya

You just didn't close the bracket with the second 'imgur' click. There is a before bracket with the word imgur and an after bracket with /imgur . It's the same with you tube video links. You have to click the button before and after the link, or highlight the link and click the button and it puts both brackets on at once.

You're almost there!

I just got back from an evening hike with #3 kid (my usual hiking partner and creek wader and rock collector) and this was from our walk

Beautiful! We used to hike in the woods when we lived in OH. We go once in a while here, but there are so many bugs.

Ok, all the butter leaked out of my Chicken Kiev. It tastes good, but I could have made regular air fried chicken in way less time. I made some baked potatoes & honey carrots to go with it.

I followed this recipe.
