I think you meant the fuel/air ratio, which has nothing to do with octane ratings.

If you have a high compression engine, do not use a lower octane!
Use what the manufacture recommends.

I’m in Eastern NC. Stations are running out everywhere. I found a station and got in line to fill up because I commute to work so it is a necessity. A whole ass fight broke out in front of me. Dude had 5 10 gallon containers he was filling up plus his gas gas guzzler truck. I was waiting patiently. Others were not so patient. Some guy started yelling at him and the next thing I know two guys were on him and yanked out part of his dreads. At this point I am pumping my gas and acting like I see nothing. I already put off the don’t eff with me vibe. So I filled up and as I was driving out I looked back and it looked like a freaking mad Max movie. Everyone fighting IN MASKS. It was surreal. I would say over 50% of the gas is gone out of my county. Ugh.

This morn, Corp called, told us, shut off premium. For now we have reg unleaded and diesel fuel. They told us prices would begin climbing and reach $5/gallon quickly. Next larger town ran out of gas by afternoon. Even interstate gas stores. Only ones who will have gas are those who receive from western part of us and any other stores who get east coast deliveries will have to pay top dollar to get oon west coast schedule.

We didn't really think "they" would allow us to live freely, unvaxxed this summer and travel within us by car freely, did we? Stock up on anything you by that travels by gas. Prices are getting ready to skyrocket. Just hit my grocer and bought food at today prices. Tomorrow, who knows?

Your cars engine ECM will adjust for the lower octane or if you are really worried you can put an octane booster additive from any number of stores.

Just checked local news websites. NOt a word. Maybe something on twit, i don't know. I am at Holden Beach. We have no stations but it would be carried on Wilmington news, wway and wect.

Just read that the owner of the pipeline thought it would be operational again in a few days. The article also mentioned could be a problem for airlines.

cant store gas for very long.

Stamford CT today. Plenty of gasoline at my regular station. Prices were 2.89 regular, 3.09 midgrade, 3.29 premium. Topped up the tank.

We're easily served from NY Harbor, don't need anything from Colonial pipeline.

Nope. I can't put anything but 93 octane in my car.

You likely can. You just don't want to. Both my cars REQUIRE it. Not RECOMMEND it. One is a Chevy Volt with an 11:1 iron block 1.4l. I tried lesser grades in my cheaper days and after datalogging the knock sensor I knew I was flirting with disaster.

The other is my 10.5:1 500 hp 388 Chevy in my truck. I have two tunes worked out so I can go along on regular gas if need be but it would be miserable. 24 degrees of timing vs 32 is really noticeable when you're trying to keep the knock sensor quiet.

So what do you drive?

I was 13 during the 79' gas crisis. Bought ACME sodas for 10 cents and sold them for a one dollar. The lines were 30 40 deep.

What you have is a whole lot of gas stations shutting down there pumps until they can sell at higher prices because the supply will be much more limited in the next 2-3 weeks. Why sell at today's prices when you can open back up at 2x the price
