Australia doesn't want you to immigrate if you are 45 or over

We already have an aging population and its going to be a major problem in the near future.
Why would we take even more?

Encourage parents to have more kids. It's that simple.

Too many Aussies read GLP and take it seriously and have been convinced that bringing children into this world is a selfish act regardless of what kind of parent one becomes.

This isn't really relevant to this thread, but what is there in Sydney that makes you think that much of Detroit?

I don't know Sydney, but I have a fairly tood idea about what Detroit is like, and my first impression is Sydney is very much unlike Detroit. To begin with, it it a coastal city with a port and its opera house is famous the world over. And pretty certain the life standard of its citizens is miles above that of Detroit inhabitants generally speaking.

So what's there so similar?

In all seriousness, this is not about imposing restrictions per se, but not allowing you to immigrate because you are 45 seems pretty harsh, and it doesn't really make much sense to me.

Why 45? At that age, most people wishing to immigrate may be expected to be active and productive, and probably have some financial reserves.

Who the fuck would want to immigrate to Australia? They’re dreaming. Locked down & monitored by very sick tyrants. Only New Zealand is worse. I have empathy but give us a break we see the news. No thanks.

Because they’ll soon be eligible for retirement benefits (social security), but they haven’t paid into it (in Australia).
