The defendant can be called as a witness, but has to be MUTE any other time during the trial (unless directly asked a question by the judge, and at that time would need to be sworn as a witness to respond). Closing arguments are handled by the attorneys, and if unrepresented by counsel, then the closing arguments can be made by the actual party or parties. When you hire an attorney to represent you in court, you give up a lot of your rights. You are admitting you are too stupid to handle the matters in your court case. |
