According to the Minerals Management Service, BP filed a permit to temporarily abandon the well, on which the Deepwater Horizon commenced drilling in February 2010. With a proposed depth of 20,000 ft, the exploration well was drilled to just over 18,000 ft. [link to rigzone.com] |

Investigators are still trying to determine whether the fissures played a role in the disaster. [link to www.bloomberg.com] |

"God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787 |

Oiled in Florida (OP) User ID: 993540 United States 07/21/2010 01:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well A was it plugged? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1043509They attempted to plug Well #A. There were some extreme problems with it for 10 days, then it blew out the BOP and the well pipe on February 13. The BOP held back the pressure and saved Deepwater Horizon. At that point, the new purpose for moving Deepwater Horizon into Well #B position was to drill a relief well. We all know what that result was on April 20 when the BOP did not work and Deepwater Horizon was lost in the process. Something that I can't remember anyone pointing out here on GLP is that after the first blowout at Well #A, almost the entire crew did not continue on to the drilling at Well #B. |

If anyone else has that info, please post it. Why do you ask? Is there a tie to a certain time on February 13? |

I think the 60 minutes interview with the survivor that first got a lot of public attention discussed the first attempt to drill. I Support Our First Responders |

Haliburton bought out boots n coots. So.... how come they don't want to contain this. Surely they would get more money if they operated w/ out killing lots of ppl and paying huge sums of money to repair their errors. Does everyone really want an amagheddon here? |
