SOLAR WATCH * Huge X8.2 Flare Sept. 10, 2017! (Updated Daily)

I like how the clouds are forming directly below the concentrations... or so it appears.

also how could i watch these flares, while they're happening..

you all seemed to be watching the last one go off, rising from an m, to the final measure of x1.4

could someone provide info or a link please??

This is a long duration X flare. We will probably get a proton storm out of this. If this one had been Earth facing it could have caused a few problems.

Although space experts warn of huge technological challenges ahead for the country’s space station plans, the programme would eventually make China the world’s only nation with a space station. The China Manned Space Engineering Office has said it plans to complete the space station in 2020, just as the International Space Station is scheduled to retire.

Amateur astronomer Michael Mattiazzo of Castlemaine, Australia caught these two images of comet Elenin on Aug. 19 (left) and Sept. 6, 2011. The images show a rapid dimming in the comet, possibly hinting at its disintegration.

whether elenin does a comet holmes is dependent on the conditions of our solar wind at the time of elenin`s presence

essentially elenin either continues to move in dark glow mode (plasma term) or glow mode, either/or is caused by it`s environment which, whist in our solar system, is predominantly our solar wind

an effect (glow/dark) governed by content and intensity of our solar radiation (wind)

the right geomagnetic storm at the right location (time) and elenin glows

Cropped a pic from SDO AIA composite 094,335,193 of the X1.4 flare.

These long duration flares are becoming very common the last week and half...I do believe solarcycle 24 is kicking into gear...something is changing with the nature of the flares no doubt...

NOAA has now numbered the region that the X1.4 flare originated from as Region 1302. As mentioned prior, this is the return of old Region 1283. You may remember that 1283 produced an X2.1 on Sept. 6, and an X1.8 on Sept. 7, earlier this month.
