I think this one is too north directed to be a threat to Earth, but it's quite large so we may see some geo-effects. Too soon to tell. It's a real beauty! [link to stereo.gsfc.nasa.gov] |

That scope is not online right now, only the one(s) with the green numbers are active. I think that last shot was taken as the sun went out of view or the dome was in the way. The GONG scopes are scattered around the globe so we can have 24-hour coverage of the sun, weather permitting. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 917684 Puerto Rico 01/26/2012 04:08 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have a question: This is primarily directed to the lifer's/moderators here... Hugh, Nin, Look'n, IWTB, etc. What here would be considered a post of excess length? The LDE thing has come to fascinate me so much that I downloaded the archive of X-ray plots from NOAA and have prepared two listings: One list all X-class events through the period and notes all LDE's evidently of duration greater than 9+ hrs. The second list is thematically identical to the first but includes the M-class of flares as well. The motivation for this exercise in monomania comes from having assembled the plots into a slideshow and having it as a background on the desktop running over and over. After having watched this more times than I'd care to count I'd swear that there's a pattern present relative to the onset and duration of just the category of LDE's themselves, it keeps prodding at my subconscious mind though I can't quite put my finger on it yet. Perhaps those here might stumble over what I can't quite arrive at...several dozen heads are exponentially better than one I'm sure. To be sure, if this has already been posted here in compact form previously or exists elsewhere on the web I'd dismiss the notion of a posting out of hand, also if this wouldn't be of significant interest to those hereabouts. The first list is relatively compact at less than 200 lines (about)...the second is much longer obviously. |
