SOLAR WATCH * Huge X8.2 Flare Sept. 10, 2017! (Updated Daily) | |
learner User ID: 1829655 United States 01/26/2012 12:07 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | [link to www.bigupload.com] and i feel that this last event has been really educational for me. actually observing the process is much different than examining data of past events: far more enlightening, imo. obviously, much more observation, thought, and discussion remains before understanding arrives.... a coupla things i noticed : CMEs tend to arrive in a 3 'half wave' impact, almost as if we pass through two transitions (leading and trailing edge) and a middle peak. there appears to be a strong correlation (tho not always: annoyingly) between Bz flips and strong geofield 'ringing'. absolute magnitude of flare that produces a CME is less important than duration: or more precisely, both magnitude and duration need to be considered when estimating the degree of interaction. there appears to be at least some correlation between planetary locations and earth directed CMEs: need more data here to be sure. the D-RAP chart might be a good metric for a 'charged' earth. a coupla burning questions: while the IMF polarity (Bz red or green) seems to affect Gaia's field strongly during some periods, other times, almost not all. Where is the missing variable(s?) that determines the degree of interaction? is it all pure physics or is there some 'information processing' going on? does/can She choose? it seems quite reasonable to me that the biosphere can process information: choose different actions based on similar stimulus. or something. i hope to have some post processing to share with y'all in a coupla days. It produced a series of C class flares on Jan. 26, including a long duration event (C6.4, 0542UT peak time), accompanied with a partial halo CME observed on both COR2 coronagraphs on STEREO and with LASCO onboard SOHO. This event is not expected to trigger any significant geomagnetic disturbance. Geomagnetic activity is expected to be active by the end of Jan. 27 due to a coronal hole becoming geoeffective. Current solar wind conditions are quiet. [link to sidc.oma.be] |

These flares are often associated with solar magnetic storms known as coronal mass ejections (CMEs). While these are the most common solar events, the sun can also emit streams of very fast protons - known as solar energetic particle (SEP) events - and disturbances in the solar wind known as corotating interaction regions (CIRs). The full article is here: [link to www.spacedaily.com] Flights rerouted as massive solar storm slams Earth Jan 24, 2012 Solar radiation from a massive sun storm -- the largest in nearly a decade -- collided with the Earth's atmosphere on Tuesday, prompting an airline to reroute flights and skywatchers to seek out spectacular light displays. US carrier Delta Air Lines said it had adjusted flight routes for transpolar journeys between Asia and the United States to avoid problems caused by the radiation storm, a spokesman said.
