I'm no expert in these radio events that's why I posted the links. In layman's terms, the Sun constantly emits radio frequencies, but occasionally these radio emissions can interfere or overpower frequencies used in GPS, military communications, ham radio reception, etc. I imagine that these alerts are a warning for folks dependent on these transmission frequencies that vital information is at risk for noise, corruption of data, or lost transmissions. Very important if your forces are invading an innocent territory for a hi-tech conquest.

Damn it's exciting when Sol feels like partying!

It is fun watching!! As long as I am not watching it spike up pass an X20+ I am good. It starts climbing to those levels and I wonder how many would begin to have heart palpatations, lol

Got it. Just an FYI from the sun, without the sign. hhmm, dark flares...very scary!

Although, I have a feeling things are just starting to heat up...literally!

Thanks for the links. My profession depends heavily on the GPS sats. So, I'm attempting to learn what level of Solar activity is a 'real' threat to the continued satisfactory performance of these bugers.

That's biggest flare in 3 days, and it looked like 1444 was fading into oblivion. The Sun is always full of surprises.

Speaking of surprises, the GOES electron flux as well as the NICT sim noted here earlier are reacting to some solar influence even though the K-index hasn't budged from a #1=Quiet. I think we're encountering a slight back-wash from a small CME due to the increased density. Just a minor disturbance, but noticeable to us at GLP :)

Any one know how big the flare was that 1429 popped earlier today??

C1 I think.

The one that sent that huge CME out? This is far side still, not the little C-flare just a bit ago, to clarify.

AR1444 is directly facing Earth and there was a small filament wrapped around the western edge; so we'll have to be vigilant for a possible CME from this flare.

X-ray Flux Rising again

C 1

C1.7, but it was interesting to watch all three and actually having more of a clue. As soon as Bz moved back to positive, the flare was done.

The Bz has no relation to a current X-ray flare, it only reflects the magnetic polarity of the solar winds. Of course a large Earth-directed flare with a CME would effect the Bz vector eventually in 2 to 4 days time. The best guide to the NICT data is NINzrez's thread on the magnetosphere.

The recent large CME, ostensibly from a filament eruption, seems to be a full halo in the SEEDS analytics movie; so we may see some effects in a couple of days. Let's see what the experts say tomorrow (glancing blow hahaha).
