SOLAR WATCH * Huge X8.2 Flare Sept. 10, 2017! (Updated Daily)

The same 'Whisp' of Plasma is making quite a nice geometric shape in the Corona when seen in the SDO193 [link to sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov]

Hugh, when do you think another monster sunspot will pop out? I hope the next one is bigger than AR 1476 AND AR 1429.

Well, unless 1492 is still strengthening, it looks like return of 1476 is the next chance of a large sunspot region. It's the giant blob on the far-side GONG models. But the BIG FLARE of 2003 (I tink) was produced by a huge sunspot which wasn't even visible until almost mid-disk. Things are known to change without notice. Such is the enigma of our Sun....which is why we stay vigilant.

I'd love to hear SOMETHING from NASA in regards to these spheres.

The fact they aren't even acknowledged baffles me even more, even if only to say "we don't know what it is, but we are looking into it ......"

this is the fisrt time i have seen it defect the plasma!

This looks loke a magnetic filament viewed from a weird angle. Deflects and interacts w/another filament/cornoal ejecta. Sometimes these lines last hours. What do you think?

i am of the mind this is natural. but it must have a charge.

in this video the plasma is deflected. that is for sure.

what if this sphere has a positive charge inside. so the positive charged plasma is repealed?

NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory recorded the movie during the late hours of May 25th. According to the 3D Sun app, another active region is approaching just behind this one and could boost solar activity even more when it emerges in the days ahead.

'01/25/2012 :: January 25 at 03.18.30 GMT small spacecraft "Chibis-M" separated from the cargo vehicle (THC), "Progress M-13M" and began its autonomous flight. According to the ballistic Service Mission Control Center microsatellite was launched with the following parameters: • ; minimum height above the surface of the Earth - 497.535 km; • the maximum height above the surface of the Earth - 513.607 km• period - 94.55 minutes; • inclination - 51.62 degrees'.

'"Chibis-M", intended to implement a new geophysical experiment aimed at a comprehensive study of physical processes in atmospheric lightning discharges. Microsatellite "Chibis-M" was created at the Institute of Space Research Institute in conjunction with other scientific organizations. Approximately one-third the mass of the satellite is a complex of scientific equipment (KPA), "The Storm". For the first time on a single satellite in a complex set of devices, "overlapping" range from gamma to radio waves, that the plan will allow researchers to "see" the largest possible number of processes that occur during lightning discharge. In the KPA "The Storm" includes x-ray detectors, gamma, ultraviolet and radio waves (30-50 MHz), generated by lightning discharge at an altitude of 13-20 km. In the KPA also includes tools for the study of plasma oscillations. In order to understand whether these are accompanied by flashes of lightning radiation, the KPA equipped with a digital camera. Why the spike in proton levels?

Preeceding the Proton Alert Onset we had a Type 2 Radio Emmission and then type 4 Radio Emmision,the latter usually indicates that there has been a particularly Violent Eruption on the Sun and often indicate a strong CME and/or Solar Radiation Storms.

I wouldn't panic about the excess protons causing a coronal cavity, besides - I don't think an explanation from NASA would change much of anything, try meditation. At least NASA is better at keeping the feeds up than USGS

Yeah, it pisses me off as well. They were playing game w/SDO all week to get ready for the big game, I mean big Venus transit day. For some reason, the composites are relatively up-to-date (and the HMI data seems unaffected). Lockheed has not updated their flare list in 7+ hours! I noticed too that 1492 has vanished from the flare list....more numbers games. Big holiday weekend and they find competent help. All the physicists are partying at South Beach all weekend (I hope they're all smited by the Sun).

Looks like a C 3 or 4 LDE produced a CME and juiced the GOES proton flux. I have the EVE x-ray image from the time of the flare, but I'm surprised by the proton and electron spikes. This active region may have more surprises in store.

That's a good question, too, Nacht. The ACE electron detector is around one million miles closer to the Sun and the GOES electron detectors are in geosynchronus orbit around Earth and (usually) within the protection of the Magnetosphere. Basically ACE is recording the raw solar winds and GOES is recording what's leaking through the Earth's magnetic shield.

However, it's bit unusual to see a spike like the ACE electrons from a C3 flare from a region still not facing us directly. This could be a harbinger of big things to come from region "whatever they're calling it".
