To all who have thanked me for this post: You're welcome!!!

And thank you to those who have suggested a pin!!

hf

I love to share the interesting stuff I dig up online with others hoping it will help someone! I think this is just all so interesting and amazing! There is so much out there that we NEED to know - we just need to FIND it! Let's help each other find it!

Many people think if something is true or is important, they will hear about it on the "news". HA! Wrong! Some of the most important information will never be on the news because they don't want us to know! Or they think we are too dumb to get it!

That's why I love GLP! Lots of truth here (mixed in with a little BS which can be fun too, LOL). Though the disclaimer says "Don't believe a word you read on this site", I must admit I am more inclined to believe what I read here before many other information outlets!

I am allergic to Iodine.

That shit almost killed me. -_-
 Quoting: Silverblade

No one is allergic to Iodine, doctors tell people that myth. You were allergic to the food the Iodine it was in or the chemical solution the Iodine was in because if you or anyone was actually allergic to Iodine you would be dead. You can not live without it. Iodine is in common table salt, milk (less now days), strawberries, seafood.

Here is some info:

"Huang SW
Allergy Asthma Proc. 2005;26:468-469
Summary

This study enrolled 75 patients over a 2-year period, 60 of whom were confirmed to have shellfish allergy. Of these individuals, 92% believed that it was the iodine in the fish or shellfish that was responsible for their allergic reactions. When asked about their source of information, most stated that they had learned about it in a magazine or over the Internet.

The study author conducted a survey of iodine content in common foods and found that although seafood had a higher content of iodine than nonseafood items, the daily intake of iodine was much higher overall from ingestion of nonseafood items. It is well known that the immunoglobulin (Ig)E-mediated allergic reaction accompanying the ingestion of seafood is due to a reaction to the fish or shellfish protein, not the iodine itself. Therefore, the study author concluded that any phobias about iodine in seafood are unfounded, and better public education is needed in regard to this common misconception.
Viewpoint

There is a very common misconception among the public that those who are allergic to seafood are actually reacting to the iodine in the seafood. It is known that those who are allergic to seafood are reacting to proteins in the fish or shellfish, not the iodine. This misconception may create a problem when these patients need a diagnostic x-ray requiring radiocontrast media (which may contain iodine). In this situation, patients assume that they are allergic to the radiocontrast media because it may contain iodine. This can cause great anxiety among patients scheduled for such tests, and has created problems for radiologists and allergists who receive calls from these worried patients."

Re: IODINE - What they DON'T tell us about this MIRACLE nutrient! UNBELIEVABLE!
I'll say again... get yourself some detoxified iodine, a few drops in a glass of water per day.. good to go

[link to www.projectgreenlife.com]

Why is Detoxified Iodine superior to Potassium Iodide (KI)?

The idea behind Potassium Iodide is that, being bonded with Potassium, the Iodine is water soluble and therefore easier for the body to assimilate. This has been the basic belief of the scientific community for the past century, however, there is no scientific evidence to substantiate the premise. The body does not assimilate it better because it's bonded with potassium. The detoxified (Atomic) form is the only form the body can fully recognize and thereby assimilate, and it was Mr. Cayce's explanation of the charging process that enabled our manufacturer to transmute this product into its superior form. Naturally, an assimilable Iodine is much better in protecting the thyroids (as well as the reproductive glands, which are the two basic regions of the body that are particularly sensitive to radiation) and stimulating them as well then any other form of iodine.

David Brownstein, MD, a respected authority on iodine, speaking about radiation exposure says: "If there is enough inorganic, non-radioactive iodine in our bodies, the radioactive fallout has nowhere to bind in our bodies. It will pass through us, leaving our bodies unharmed." What Dr Brownstein is saying here is that you need to already have iodine in your body before being exposed, but most people are iodine-deficient in general.

If you are using or planning to use Potassium Iodide (KI) tablets, you must be aware that KI can produce a long list of severe reactions if too much is taken. These include hyper and hypothyroidism and goiter. Adults older than 40 years should not take KI unless public health or emergency management officials say that contamination with a very large dose of radioactive iodine is expected. Adults older than 40 years have the lowest chance of developing thyroid cancer or thyroid injury after contamination with radioactive iodine. They also have a greater chance of having allergic reactions to KI.

Good point! What some identify as an allergic reaction could possibly be a detoxification reaction. This reaction occurs as a result of your body flushing out toxins. If I am not mistaken, the reaction comes as a result of the toxins being "dislodged" from wherever they were being stored in the body. After being dislodged they enter the circulation for a short while before they are purged and flushed out of the body. I am guessing it is during the time they are freely circulating that they are wreaking havoc on the body casing the detox reactions. Feel free to correct me on this.

The following was taken from [link to docs.google.com] beginning at frame 74.

Detoxification Reactions include
- Fatigue
- Muscle aches
- Fever
- Diarrhea
- Brain Fog
- Skin rashes

“Detoxification reactions are rare, but it has happened.”
- David Brownstein, MD

Iodine adverse effects are described as “Iodoism” but may actually be “Bromism”.

Iodine adverse effects include:
- Frontal sinus headache
- Metallic taste in mouth
- Increased salivation
- Sneezing
- Head cold-like symptoms
- cold
- Acne

Side effects are rare – Occur in 1-3% of patients.

Another Detoxification Reaction?

In those with high bromide levels
– Increased body odor - lasts 1-2 weeks
– Cloudy urine (perhaps with a thick sedimentation) may last several months

- Pre-ortho-iodo-supplementation, the urine samples were clear.
- We do not know if the presence of bromide in the urine was the cause of the odor or cloudiness.
- Increased fluid intake and magnesium are recommended by Dr. Abraham.

Re: IODINE - What they DON'T tell us about this MIRACLE nutrient! UNBELIEVABLE!
I was thinking what if the root cause of breast cancer is an iodine deficiency? I thought this when I learned that iodine is largely stored in they thyroid, breast tissue (lots there), ovaries, prostate, etc. Add the fact that when you don't have enough iodine in your body, your body absorbs other harmful substances in its place (radioactive iodine to name one).

Think about what a mammogram is! Radiation! What if someone is iodine deficient when they have a mammogram? Does this mean breast tissue will absorb the radioactive x-ray particles passing through it? Could the detection of breast cancer actually contribute to its development???

Re: IODINE - What they DON'T tell us about this MIRACLE nutrient! UNBELIEVABLE!
op is iodine ok for hyper and hypo thyroid conditions?

And FYI my wife went to 3 different Drs in a 12 month period.Had the T3 t4 tests done all came back normal. Finally went to see another Dr and he looked at her and said you have a thyroid problem-then he ran different tests and confirmed it via ultrasound if I remember correctly-Hashimotos disease.

That disease I guess is an infected thyroid and hypothyroidism. He put her on the meds.

Since the thyroid itself cleans alot of garbage out of us via iodine-if its infected I assume a very low amount of I is present.
Would it be safe for my wife to take kelp or I supplements?
I would prefer Lugols but thats not available here.Maybe will pick some up on our next trip home.
I know enough to know that I know nothing

I started taking Iodoral about two months ago because my hands and feet were always freezing. It cured that right up, but I also found it beneficial for menstrual cramps. I've had problems with cramps for decades. About four years ago I found that Evening Primrose Oil helped, but the Iodoral has been even more effective...I hardly had to take any Advil at all for cramps these last two months and usually I'd be taking the maximum dosage for 3 days.

Re: IODINE - What they DON'T tell us about this MIRACLE nutrient! UNBELIEVABLE!
I started myself and my family on kelp, chlorella and zinc on March 13. We also use betadine topically but only on days when maps show concentration of radioactive iodine over our area.
I have an enlarged thyroid because of Chernobyl(I lived about 200 miles from the site at the time of explosion, now I'm in FL). Most of my friends (only women)ended up with the same problem. I have to do tests for my thyroid every couple of years. So I'm freaked out right now for my adolescent daughters.
I wish I knew about kelp earlier. I hope it helps our throids but I also noticed something suprising since starting supplements. I suffer from migraines. It runs in my family. Lately I had them 4-5 days a week. My last migraine attack was on March 14. I've never gone so long without having one. I've taken a lot of prescription crap for it but I worried that I poison myself with chemicals. I don't know if it's kelp or chlorella that helps me (zinc I've taken before) but I'm sold on both. Maybe my body just needed a good cleanse.
Also, I burned my hand lately. I put antibiotic spray on it(as I usually do) and painted betadine on. I've never had a burn heal so quickly.
I'm happy to learn that it prevents cancer, too.
Iodine is great!

WOAH!!!

Check out this 7 page write up I just found! It was written by a doctor (there ARE some good ones out there!). It's not about iodine (directly, that is) but relates to what I said above.

"The Role of Mammography in Breast Health an Overdue Paradigm Shift" (written by a PhD)

"The strongest evidence for a particular initiating factor in breast cancer is that for irradiation ... Evidence that other carcinogens initiate breast cancer development is extremely limited."

"Experts are publishing new evidence in peer-reviewed journals relating to the risks inherent in using mammography for breast screening. The findings are of no surprise to a growing number of doctors and specialists who have known for years that some of the cancers they have to treat are linked to the accumulative effects of mammographic radiation exposure.

Controversy has raged for years as to whether the risks related to the radiation exposure suffered from mammography are justified by the benefits gained …… new evidence relating to the particular type of radiation used and the hard evidence relating to the clinical benefits of mammography have caused a serious re-evaluation of the justification of mammography as a screening test.

If changes for the better are to be made, then the current paradigm needs serious evaluation by examining all of the existing evidence.

The risks from radiation produced by mammography are far greater than the proponents of this test are aware of or have been promoting to women. Mammography does pose a wide range of risks of which women are still uninformed.

Mammography X-rays use a low energy form of ionising radiation which causes greater biologic damage than the high energy X-ray (used with chest x-rays). The very low energy electrons affects the density of ionisation tracks that pass through the tissue which can cause complex damage to the DNA and carcinogenic changes. The radiation used by mammography is almost 5 times more effective at causing
cancer.

Under current guidelines, premenopausal women undergoing annual screening over a ten-year period are exposed to a total of about 20 rads. The premenopausal breast is highly sensitive to radiation, each rad of exposure increasing breast cancer risk by 1 percent, resulting in a cumulative 10 percent increased risk over ten years of premenopausal screening. Each new dose adds risk, because a single x-ray photon, acting alone, is capable of causing unrepairable, permanent damage to DNA and chromosomes --- including carcinogenic mutations.

The principle of informed consent in medicine is ignored if women are not informed of the evidence relating to the risk and if women more readily consent to annual mammograms because they have been given ‘misinformation’ this is as bad as obtaining consent by deliberately blocking valid information. Women are entitled to know the full range of responsible opinion about the benefits, the risks, and the many uncertainties of mammography."

WOW! Now that I think about it, my grandmother did not use salt for many, many years. She used the salt substitute called "No Salt". There is no iodine in that stuff! It's made with some form of potassium.

My grandmother died of breast cancer! An iodine deficiency???

She also had 5 heart attacks!!! Potassium overload???

Actually a small amount of arsenic is a cancer preventative. I can't remember which country it was, but they ate the pit of a peach unlike most Americans. Scientists decided to do some research there because the country had a very low rate of cancer. Turns out everyone eating the pits were not getting cancer later in life!

AWESOME! Did it help your LDS? I have tons of Lyme Disease sypmtoms too, but as everything else, my test results came back negative. I'm glad for that but when you don't feel well and have actual physical symptoms such as body-wide joint pain on a 10+ scale, hair loss, etc, you become pretty desperate for answers!

That's why I am so excited about this iodine information! The more I put this all together, the more I realize that I have many severe symptoms of several illnesses/disorders. Coincidentally, several of these illnesses are similar and connected in one way or another! One of the ways they are connected is that they share the same symptoms as iodine deficiency! Another way they are connected is that several of them are autoimmune disorders (I have been officially diagnosed with narcolepsy, which is an autoimmune disorder).

Coincidentally, iodine deficiency also shares many of the same symptoms of various autoimmune disorders. Examples of autoimmune disorders are Narcolepsy, Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Sjogrens syndrome, Pernicious anemia, Addison's disease, Type I diabetes, Dermatomyositis, Multiple sclerosis, Myasthenia gravis, Reactive arthritis, Grave's disease, Celiac disease/Sprue.

Is it a coincidence that we have seen a rise in the incidence of many of these disorders within the past 50 or so years????? That's about the time when the use of IODINE was becoming less common or discontinued alltogether in the healthcare and food industry.

An autoimmune disorder is a condition that occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys healthy body tissue. I have this hunch that the immune system is not blindly or randomly attacking healthy tissues, I think there is something wrong or faulty with the tissues it is destroying - possibly on a molecular level - and that is why the immune system is attacking them - it's doing its job.

Maybe the immune system response is not to blame. Maybe IT can see there is something wrong with those tissues that WE (scientists, doctors) CANNOT SEE, maybe the fault is undetectible to humans, or they are just not seeing where the problem lies.???

Maybe the immune system is correctly doing its job by destroying the faulty cells, but since we can't see the faults in the cells, we blame the immune system and say it has basically gone whacko, or it is confused.

I would put money on it that my problem is plain and simple iodine deficiency! My problems have been going on for years. If things improve greatly after I am on full iodine replacement therapy, I will KNOW that was the problem!!! Very exciting!

Thanks for reading. I think about this stuff a LOT. rolleyes

Re: IODINE - What they DON'T tell us about this MIRACLE nutrient! UNBELIEVABLE!
2 questions:

1) when people say "betadine", is that the same as the iodine tincture (2%) that you can get in tiny bottles at the store?

2) after painting the 2"x 2" splotch on yourself, will it disappear *completely* after 3-4 hours if your iodine deficient? As in: no residual stain at all?

Thanks.

I'm guessing now is a good time to invest in the iodine selling industry.

Iodine can be bad for those with autoimmune thyroid conditions, so take it at your own risk and do more research about this. Not everyone agrees that iodine is this amazing nutrient especially in the very high doses that Dr. Brownstein recommends.

I had an unusual reaction to iodine (and I don't have an autoimmune thyroid condition), so I'm scared to take it these days.
