Alien abduction, Old Hag Syndrome, Sleep Paralysis.
According to my own research, in most sleep paralysis episodes, the victim experiences 3 major entities/hallucinations. 1. Alien abduction is consistent with sleep paralysis in most cases. 2. In Newfoundland and England people experience an old hag, which i must add is documented back over 2000 years. And 3. A shadowy figure who either stands at the foot of your bed and/or attacks the victim violently. If you do suffer from SP i would really like to know which of these you experience. Yes i am aware of the scientific explanations and yes i have heard many christian inputs about demons, so i would appreciate no bible bashers or people who have a self taught degree. I merely want to compare the entities and include them in my research to find a connection.

I've never had sleep paralysis but I've seen the hag hovering over me one night before blacking out, way back in the early nineties. I thought it was a dream but later heard of endless old hag stories so I think she is part of our collective unconscious for sure.

Re: Alien abduction, Old Hag Syndrome, Sleep Paralysis.
I grew up in a time and culture where witchcraft, the occult and the paranormal were fashionable. As a consequence of my own deep involvement in these areas, I would regularly have SP episodes wherein I would hear a loud buzzing noise.

When my father died years later, I became a Christian. One night I began to experience an SP episode as usual but this time the buzzing noise was louder than ever.

After a few seconds of this, I began to hear what sounded like a chorus of people singing in the background. The chorus became louder and louder as the buzzing noise began to wane more and more. Eventually the chorus of singing utterly swamped out any buzzing altogether.

What was the chorus that the people were singing? It was some multi-harmony Christian hymn praising God.

Since that night in 1977 till this I have never again experienced a PS episode, heard any buzzing sound, or heard a chorus of people sing as I lay half awake and half asleep.

Interesting story as you didn't experience SP, i truly wonder what place an old hag has in the conscious of a modern generation.....

Every phenomena described can be explained by a condition called Night Terrors, a type of extreme nightmare. Fairly common in young children, but can happen to anyone at any age.

[link to www.nightterrors.org]

[link to www.mayoclinic.com]

I had them frequently as a young child. My experiences included:

Being awake or at least semi-aware but with paralysis, and often in a sitting position.

A sense of dread/terror, especially that an evil entity was in the room with me, even if I couldn't see it.

Frequently, but not always, seeing shadow figures that exuded malevolence.

Audio hallucinations

Believing inanimate objects in my room became alive and changed shapes, etc.,

The buzzing noise seems to be an artifact of an open spiritual portal that permits dischorded sounds to enter in along with whatever else is tagging along.

Thanks for your post and links, interesting read. However SP is different from night terrors in many ways and they are not the same.

So if we were to say that aliens influence modern society, hence abductions. And demons and witches influenced society in the 1700's hence the demon and or hag. And the shadowy violent figure influenced by christianity, and belief in poltergeists. What get's me is why people still experience an old hag to this day when A: they never heard about Old Hag Syndrome and B: that does not apply to modern day influences. It is the odd one out, yet it is consistently experienced for over 2000 years.

The answer to your questions can be better realized if you change your premise of investigation.

For me, the UFO phenomenon and demonology are inextricably intertwined. This is also the opinion of researchers in both areas.

The one common connection point between a unified UFO-demonic connection is the Biblical Judeo/Christian worldview.

That's not religion...that's simply the common connection.

No because i am not searching for a relation between ufo's and religion. I have studied that until i am unable. Having studied theology as student in a catholic college, and also the Kabbalah one needs not look past the book of Ezekiel to see the relationship of which you speak. I merely want to know what people experience in connection to modern day influences.

Re: Alien abduction, Old Hag Syndrome, Sleep Paralysis.
I've been investigating this for years. I believe there is a connection, but there are even deeper connections if you wander into other areas such as abductions. Then you get into stories of jinn, elves, fairies, etc. All entities that kidnap people, steal things, and either live below ground or fly through the air. ALL of which also supposedly have the ability to "magically" manipulate a person including paralysis.

I've suffered from sleep paralysis, but I have never seen anything, just awoken with an inability to move. I never felt anything scary in the room either. Also, my father suffered from sleep paralysis when he was younger and night terrors when he was older. He and I also used to get leg cramps in our sleep (calf muscle). I don't know if the muscle cramps are related, but I just thought I'd mention.

As far as I know my older brother never had these things happen. Another interesting point would be that both myself and my father are the youngest sons. Again, don't know if that means anything, but it is a detail he and I share.

I have had ONE dream that I believe could have resembled a succubus, but it was not an Old Hag attack. It was a dream about a redhead, slightly unattractive who laughed and told me she'd be back in a month. The room in the dream had strange writing on the walls, like graffiti written in blood. As far as I know, she never came back, but then again I might not have recalled the dream if she did.

My mother and my aunt both experienced the "heavy chest" syndrome. Where they were convinced something heavy was sitting on their chests.

Whenever I experience sleep paralysis I simply fight to move and eventually I break free and am able to move. No need to cry out for help and say any magic names. I simply become extremely determined to move and within a few seconds I can, which leads me to believe that some sort of process is cutting off the signal from your brain to the nerves that control your muscles, but that the "link" can be re-established with intense conscious thought and an actual real effort to move. So "if" there are actually entities doing this their method is not foolproof and some individuals are capable of moving if they exercise their will in a very determined way.

Heaviness of the chest (in some people) would indicate to me as well that some sort of interference is happening within the nervous system to create this sensation. Sorta like how some bugs or serpents can entrance or paralyze their victims with neurotoxins or hypnotic suggestions. Though another possibility is simply being awakened while in deep sleep and the chemicals or hormones that cause that deep sleep are still too powerful to make yourself move (these chemicals are a natural defense to keep you from moving around and hurting yourself during deep sleep). HOWEVER, if a vicitim of sleep paralysis shows signs of being marked or bruise the natural explanation goes out the window, as if they are paralyzed they would be unable to accidentally or intentionally mark themselves. Signs of marking would indicate external influence.

Well again, your premise for asking about SP is wrong if your worldview is not up to speed with the facts!

Case in point: the Ezekiel wheels are not UFO's but living beings. Read the text. There are parallels between the descriptive elements in Ezekiel's wheels and UFO's but to force a conclusion that descriptions have a causal relationship to phenomenon is poor scholarship.

Ergo, you can get all the SP testimonials you need and still come to wrong conclusions regarding them.

What you need is a working model that embraces the phenomenon; then it makes sense to ask questions about the phenomenon. To my knowledge, only the Judeo/Christian model addresses and answers the age old demonological/UFO problem. Other models only take in one side or the other but not both sides at once.

SP is part of the UFO/demonological problem because it is within the field of UFOlogy and demonology that SP occurs with most frequency.

I don't know if this can be classified as an 'Old Hag' incident, as I'm not well versed on all the reported appearances of it.

My three teenage daughters get up before I do to get ready for school. One morning I awoke to them shouting at me from the hallway outside my room. They told me that there was this old woman hovering over me in bed. She had ridiculously long dark hair which was swirling all around me. They told me there were lights in rainbow all over my room, (In Canada, it's dark at 5 am.) but the lights didn't seem to come from anything. They went on to say that the sight made their skin crawl and the only thing they could do was to shout at me, they didn't want to come into my room (who could blame them?). They said that when I woke up, the thing disappeared and so did the lights.
Honestly, they looked shocked and were definitely shaken up. I believe they saw something, but I'm still not quite sure what it was.

Thankyou AC, i enjoy your post because it is unbiased. Also i am interested in the connection to your parents. As for marks, i interviewed an elderly woman in germany who claims she was abducted by aliens on a regular basis since she was 16. She later told me that they were in fact 'demons' as she is christian and she suffers from sleep paralysis. However she awakes from SP with triangular marks in un noticed places, this time on her calf. Interesting phenomena to think about no?

my belief is that the human body is designed this way as sleep peralisis helps you to not act out your dreams, however, what was designed for the good has been taken advantage of by demonic entities.

Im a follower of Jesus the Christ, however, when I turned to medicine to help with my anxiety instead of Jesus, I used to wake up in sleep peralisis with an overwhelming feeling of being watched and the most painful sharp pains in my side. Almost nightly, everytime

Re: Alien abduction, Old Hag Syndrome, Sleep Paralysis.
Here is my experience

Sleep Paralysis

My most recent episode. I woke up in the middle of the night, around 3 am, and was paralyzed from the neck down. Also, I had no voice with which to scream. The only thing that seemed to work were my eyes. It was dark, obviously and there was something standing over me. Not at the foot of the bed, but beside me. This "thing" was very tall. I'm talking ceiling height because it was near the roof of my canopy over my bed. Anyhow, I remember not being able to scream at it outloud and I was so brave and screamed at it from in my head to GO! I very sternly said it must leave me because it was frightening me....and quick as a flash it was gone. Then I was able to move again and quickly cuddled up to my husband. LOL It might have been a dream, but my goodness, it was so real.

I'd never heard of the old hag until I looked it up the next morning.

But I've got something else for you.

My husband and I. Infertile couple. In twenty years of marriage we have had one pregnancy resulting in one child. Medically a miracle child. I was "visited" one night and told I would concieve that very nice, the EXACT date it would be born and that he would be a boy. It ALL came to pass. Every single thing I was told. These visitations weren't visual, but rather auditory communications. Again, this happened approx 3 am. and woke me up out of my sleep.

Also, have had white figures, twice, sort of floating over the bed. Their presence awakens me and I can see "something" floating there. It startles me and I kick it away and it immediately disappears. They don't seem evil, they just startle me and then leave.

And another strange nighttime visitation there were two beings standing outside my bedroom door. There is a staircase right there and they were on the stairs peeking trhough the railings, hence their heads were floor level, (since they were half way up the flight of stairs) They were standing there observing my husband and I. I saw them and we made eye contact. I was terrified and in a moment they were gone. It felt like I'd switched time lines, as crazy as that seems, that is what it felt like.

Re: Alien abduction, Old Hag Syndrome, Sleep Paralysis.

Yes AC you are right...... in a biased view. I am trying to be unbiased, therefor not making conclusions in a biased matter. It is for this i keep my own theories an beliefs out of the conversation. As for the wheels in Ezekiel, you cannot make that assumption as it can be perceived as hypothetical, a bit like the book of revelations, if you took it literally it makes no sense. Just grouping all of the experiences in one (or two) categories is premature in my current stage of research. We need to isolate the paranormal, religious, ET, and scientific explanations to take a secular and unbiased view and therefor come to a conclusion that is not influenced in any way by personal belief. i hope you understand that as i find you to be an intelligent person on the same path but taking a different road.
