Two, a couple of fine bikes. Ultimately, bikes may be your best bet. An average person can cover over 60 miles a day. Do get a trailer for them or good bags though. Quoting: sailormon 1350164True, bikes may be good, but I can hold 140 gallons of diesel in my tanks and go over 2400 miles with them full. |

If you attempt to bug out and have the only working vehicle, you will probably be shot by a guy who will steal your vehicle, who will be shot by somebody else stealing the vehicle from him, and on and on. Board up the windows and keep your head down for the first few months. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1268825Only problem, there is a lot of people will revert to their base nature pretty quickly in a SHTF situation. Hell they're already doing it. In cities there will be burning and no one to put out the fires. Hunkering down could be more dangerous than running for it. |

It's a 5 speed 7.3 diesel. I can start it, take the battery out and it keeps running. Anyone else have anything like this? Quoting: freedomjessea 92 ford anything is not EMP proof ECU still controls ignition timing |

Quoting: freedomjessea 92 ford anything is not EMP proof ECU still controls ignition timing Rather than just someone posting a dumb laughing smilie, I will explain. Diesels do not have ignition, spark plugs, or in this units case, any electronic controls. It will probably keep running even without the alternator, but that means no headlights. None of the gauges will work post EMP but that is ok on that truck. They probably don't work anyway. I still LOL at the Bug-out-tards though... Survival is not a camping trip or a bike ride. And who ever said he will get shot and have the truck taken is probably right. If a mob sees a running vehicle, they will mob it and probably destroy it while trying to take it. |

Maguyver User ID: 808852 United States 04/20/2011 05:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | 1983 Diesel Suburban 1988 Ford/IH crane truck 1997 Dodge Cummins PU All have mechanical injection engines. If I can get them started, they will run. Fuel, Compression, and Air are all that's required. Adversity is inevitable, misery is optional. Do or do not. There is no try. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1318354Is yours stock or you make mods? Bigger fuel tank? How can you test that it is emp proof? I thought it was pre 1970-something cars that did not have electric starters. Give details opie Cunningham Well, there is nothing to test. It's mechanical, an emp will have no effect on mechanical devices. Injection pump, everything that is vital for the engine to run is mechanical, no computers whatsoever. Yes, I have an aux. 100 tank that is full in the bed. And for the other guy that says people won't be able to "bug out", he's full of crap or in denial. I at least am giving my family and myself a way to get out. I live in a city of less than 100k anyways, so it won't be that hard to get away. |

Quoting: 1994 pre-powerstroke 1147878$2995 this will be my THIRD in this class. Got one for a BOV One at the farm, and one to trade for silver and gold AFTER the balloon goes up. You're a smart guy, the IDI is a VERY good and robust engine that will run 500k miles easily. The only other choice I would choose would be a 12 valve 5.9 cummins, but the Dodge bodies are junk. |
