Why are there 84 pages for such a simple problem?

...

But you do realize that you do not have to perform them in that order do you not?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 16720242

that is their heirarchy. When there is a concern this is the fallback to determine order. And juxtaposition counts, so the inside of brackets is first, and numbers touching the brackets get done next,
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1396050

Then your answer by applying what you posted would be 1 not 9
Inside the (1+2) first then the numbers touching second 2
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 16720242

my answer WAS one. I was quoting someone that said the answer was nine.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1396050

Yes I did not mean to accuse in any way and apologize as it was not meant to be directed at you and I was unclear.

To show that calculators and more so computers are not accurate in solving many equations.

It sprang from a matter of economy in programming the functions

Re: Math: 6÷2(1+2) = ?
It's no wonder that the United States is ranked in the bottom in Math, Science and Reading.

Look at all the "morans" that said the answer is 1.

*** The people who said 1 are also the same people who spelled "morons' with an "a".

This is what happens when parents who also suck at Math, Reading and Science decide to home-school their children.

What's next? Perform dental care at home? Surgery? Cure cancer at home by placing the bible on the forehead and misting the area with Holy Water?

no

Morans only believe what they read on computers and are sheep who believe that programming languages in general use are inerrant

This actually IS a trick question. Read this:

"It really is quite stupid of a question, because NO ONE would EVER write an expression like that, just for this reason.

at the end, it depends on the order of multiply and divideing.

since they are same, you do them in order of which comes first.

If it were 6/2 * 3 , it would be 9
if it were 3 * 6/2 , it would be 1

Thats how stupid this whole thing is. It depends solely on the order of which comes first, multiplying or dividing.

multiplication and division are the same, except in juxtaposition, when a number is placed directly against a parenthesis, like in this case. That gets priority.

Quantum computing is coming and it will not be digital as that would negate the point of going quantum.

For a fairly good reason

And this problem is one example.

The ÷ means you put the 6 over the 2(1+2) as terms and in this case it doesn't matter if you do it before or after the addition remember that the 2(1+2) is ONE TERM
