Quoting: arkay Naturally this is an untennable and totally obnoxious concept to our valued privacy. Even Microsoft according to a side heading on todays GLP's main page..the third of Feb 2012, have very publicly criticized Google's intentions, with a heavy advertising campaign, and rightfully so. Fortunately there is a simple cure that will circumvent this intrusion, all you need to do is to copy and paste the following into your existing browsers "Start Page" I use IE, so I can only vouch for its use there and it appears to be functioning perfectly. Here it is... [link to www.startpage.com (secure)] If anyone can find fault or further endorse this Im certain everyone will appreciate the information being supplied. For those of you in the USA, are you aware of [link to www.whitepages.com?] A few days ago I was curious to see if friends and relatives were listed. One name I entered showed the full name and address PLUS the apartment number of a certain individual. Not good. I called this person and the website erased this information immediately upon request. |

They are paying quite a bit per head! I wonder what the impact of the alternates noted in this thread will be over time. Will they turn stealth or "evil"? |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 10117441 Slovakia 02/03/2012 04:53 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Google uses something called "GOOGLE ANALYTICS". Its hidden in MOST website. For non tech savyy people, you dont even know its there. Its called a "script". They are used to build websites and also hidden in the ads. Google is so big now, most domains and website developers use Google scripts. Mostly because of ease of use, advertising, and popularity. That is their tracking mechanism. If you right click on a website and select "page source" and search "Google". You will get TONS of scripts hidden within these pages. For example if you go to Facebook, you will see these scripts being used. Hence the ads on the right tailored to ONLY you and your "likes". Quoting: TheTruthNeverLies You are 100% correct, but if you load up the host file on your pc from this site, [link to winhelp2002.mvps.org] your browser wont load anything from google, or the hundreds of other tracking sites. It also wont load any of the ad's that surround this site, (bonus). Your web browser will speed up at least 10 times as its not sending and receiving tracking cookies all over the place. Try it, it does work, and Google wont be getting any info from you, (shame). is this for real or BS? |

So far its been great and I haven't missed the "other" search engine at all! The main reason I chose Blekko instead of Startpage was because Blekko is not "enhanced by Google". Closing them only places you in a catagory of resistance, more likely to fight and could be labeled in an ill manner. Instead, use the system like a "good" boy. I really like this type of thinking. years ago I learnt that the best way to really screw up your bank manager if he wouldnt be helpful was to not "close" your bank account, but to meerley move your existing account to the same bank but in the next nearest town. Thats when they will start pointing the guns at the manager, and you cop nothing for your efforts, in fact the next manager will probably be pretty careful with you when he learns on the grapevine what has happened to is nearby colleague! very clever thinking. |

I dont understand that...it is absolute arrogance at its best and from my view point, Id rather use a search engine that might be a bit antiquated rather than have my entire life profiled for someone elses monetary benefit. When do they offer to pay me for being me? And for which they can profit from...that is seriously sick BS. sorry, no apolagies on this one, Im hard and fast on my rights. |

arkay (OP) User ID: 944501 Australia 02/04/2012 02:45 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | OK, so back to the guts of all this... Google is proposing that they will share your personal information that they have collected on you, based on your "viewing" habits. This is firstly a grab for profit, and it is at your expense, have they offered to pay you for this ? Yet its your work...!!! So...there is the first scam Next... Since when does any internet provider get the right to operate for years....gain some or a lot of credibility, and then with ALL that information stored for years, think that they now can change the rules and revert to use all that collected information, which was formally protected, to now be used for their financial gain. What a load of crock, at what point will we ever be able to trust ANYONE OR ANYTHING again...??? This is utter BULLSHIT...yep...I said it!!! So what are you going to do now? Here's that secure web browser again... [link to www.startpage.com (secure)] nobody has put up any serious objections to it as yet, so I suggest that its worth using it! It has been good enough to get me banned from GLP twice since I started using it because of IP address changes. Sorry to GLP, if there are any really savy programers around, you might like to contact TRINITY and offer an alternative solution to avoid these automated banns so that we can still use this browser and GLP at the same time...please offer some help here, it cant be that difficult. |
