The tesseract is to the cube as the cube is to the square. Just as the surface of the cube consists of 6 square faces, the hypersurface of the tesseract consists of 8 cubical cells. The tesseract is one of the six convex regular 4-polytopes. A generalization of the cube to dimensions greater than three is called a "hypercube", "n-cube" or "measure polytope". The tesseract is the four-dimensional hypercube, or 4-cube. [link to en.wikipedia.org] |

A regular hexagon has Schläfli symbol {6}. The total of the internal angles of any hexagon is 720°. 2D^ Shadow of the Cube The Star of David, known in Hebrew as the Shield of David or Magen David (Hebrew מָגֵן דָּוִד; Biblical Hebrew Māḡēn Dāwīḏ, Tiberian [mɔˈɣen dɔˈvið], Modern Hebrew [maˈɡen daˈvid], Ashkenazi Hebrew and Yiddish Mogein Dovid [ˈmɔɡeɪn ˈdɔvid] or Mogen Dovid) is a generally recognized symbol of Jewish identity and Judaism.[1] Its shape is that of a hexagram, the compound of two equilateral triangles. The hexagram has been in use as a symbol of Judaism since the 17th century, with precedents in the 14th to 16th centuries in Central Europe, where the Shield of David was partly used in conjunction with the Seal of Solomon (the hexagram) on Jewish flags. Its use probably derives from medieval (11th to 13th century) Jewish protective amulets (segulot). The term "Shield of David" is also used in the Siddur (Jewish prayer book) as a title of the God of Israel. 2D Star Tetrahedron 3D |

Hell Comes to Frogtown is entertaining (albeit dubiously)...which is more than I can say for Kubrick's films. Kubrick tried to be clever and artsy; as a result, his work ended up being contrived and superficial. He was a pseudo-intellectual...much like his most ardent fans. 2001 has NOTHING on Plan 9 From Outer Space; a truly intelligent viewer knows this to be true. Well we agree on a couple of things at least. I'm a genius and Plan 9 is a great film. |

As someone else said, King HATED Kubric's adaptation for its extreme deviancy from the book. Hated it so far as to release his own version in the form of a mini series. It's got the hedge animals in it, which was one of my favourite things in the book. A brief run down. Stanley Kubrick was responsible for directing the faked footage for NASA. In return for helping hype the fakery like 2001 he was given the ability to make what movies he wanted. Things started to mess with him so he wanted to tell the world what went down using symbols in "The Shining". He was also uncovering the Illuminati with "Eyes Wide Shut" but he passed away before he finished it, life's a funny thing huh? No evidence was offered for this theory which ignores many facts. My best friends dad attended college with Stephen King. Met him a few years ago, and asked over dinner his thoughts about The Shinning and the controversy that surrounded it. He isn't impressed at how Kubrick morphed the story. He called it the worst adaptation of his work ever done (and after seeing Tommy Knockers, thats saying something). After seeing Weidner's documentaries (part 1 & 2) I think he's on to something. |

Captain Spaulding User ID: 15374034 United States 05/04/2012 09:56 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The reason I find the theory plausible is because the movie was so horribly, unwatchably bad that there HAS to be some ulterior motive for Kubrick to have made the film. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 15495311 Though that's pretty much how I feel about all of Kubrick's films. I can't say I thought much of the book either, but I find King's work to be that of an adolescent mind caught in an old man's body. I thought the book was better, as usual, but the film was OK. But I totally agree with you about King. Totally predictable, formula, cliche', the list goes on. Like he's got a book writing program for his computer and just types in the name of a couple of characters and a place and time and he's got a huge selling story that makes serious readers of any kind of fiction ABOVE grocery store check-out line novel quality cringe with boredom. I thought the Shining story was alright. Then I read Christine and was absolutely amazed at the lame, predictable, and unbelievable to the writers point of not giving the reader anything to relate to the story. I always thought of King as a prime example of the dumbing-down of American's through increasingly worse and worse quality art and entertainment. But he makes pretty good bank. A lot better than me. And for that, I resent his "success". Kind of like Seinfeld. Couldn't be a worse comedian out there. Sniveling, you know what he's going to make a lame joke out of next, knowing what the punch line will be in the first couple of words of a joke and like King I end up thinking to myself "no, he's not going to say... oh crap he did." And "no, this isn;t going to be what happens next...it is" I have a hard time giving ultra-high payed pop authors and pop directors credit for being clever enough to put secret messages in their work. I spent 14 years in the film industry in Hollywood and have a different perspective on the "celebrity myth". And I also know that different directors have different roles and amounts of control over the end product of their "work". |

Jack The Tripper User ID: 7103975 United States 05/04/2012 12:05 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Kubrick on The Shining [link to www.visual-memory.co.uk] Why did the room number switch from 217 in the novel to 237 in the film? The exterior of the hotel was filmed at the Timberline Lodge, near Mount Hood, in Oregon. It had a room 217 but no room 237, so the hotel management asked me to change the room number because they were afraid their guests might not want to stay in room 217 after seeing the film. There is, however, a genuinely frightening thing about this hotel which nestles high up on the slopes of Mount Hood. Mount Hood, as it happens, is a dormant volcano, but it has quite recently experienced pre-eruption seismic rumbles similar to the ones that a few months earlier preceded the gigantic eruption of Mount St. Helens, less than sixty miles away. If Mount Hood should ever erupt like Mount St. Helens, then the Timberline Hotel may indeed share the fiery fate of the novel's Overlook Hotel. Jack The Tripper |
