Anonymous Coward User ID: 1482838 United States 08/29/2012 08:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Must have blown that second levee. I think they blew the levee on the Mississippi to relieve flooding in the city. This caused the flooding in Plaquemines which they had ordered mandatory evacs in except forgot to evac the nursing home there? Then they blew the back earthen levee. My question is who in turn will this flood out? I need to consult google maps. |

It was a private levee and they did have the right to blow their own levee and they did. Quoting: WindyMind Quickly plotting the distances traveled based on 20 hours of advisory positions (8 pm last night to 4 PM today) shows that the storm travelled 90 miles or 4.5 MPH. NHC stated that the storm averaged 7 MPH in that time frame. Additionally, the storm moved all of 5 miles from 10 PM to 2 AM but the NHC showed 32 Miles of movement during that time frame. Why the discrepancy? Was it just oversight or innocent error? |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 18761490 South Africa 08/29/2012 08:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | No, 20+ inches of rain fell quickly across a large area. Normal precipitation flows into the river(s) and down into the Gulf. But it being just past high tide and facing storm surge that rain has no where to go. It will take a few hours for rivers to swell to peak. The local waterways are gonna keep rising. PLUS there is MORE rain to come! Ugghh!... Thanks. I remember just after Hurricane Katrina a female CNN reporter said: "Phew! That wasn't so bad....looks like New Orleans is going to escape mostly unscathed." Then the levees started breaking...and we all know how that turned out!! |

[link to abcnews.go.com] Thanks. I do believe this is why they ordered this Parish to be mandatory evac'd ahead of time even though it did not flood at all during Katrina! I think they knew there 15 billion dollar levee system wasn't going to work, and this was the plan, release the overflow that really looks to me like a big ole drainage field in the past with another earthen levee on the backside to release when it got full. I didn't belive the story they told the media that they would breach a levee on the Mississippi to drain it there! Diagrams or no diagrams that makes no sense at all if it is toppin over upstream causing this is the first place! Yet with a straight face they drew a place to blow on the Mississippit to "drain" Plaquemines!! Like the Mississippi wouldn't come flooding in the other way! |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 22478544 United States 08/29/2012 08:28 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hope they can get their essential services back soon, it looks like it is going to be a job and take time. Hopefully, Issac will be kinder on its future path. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 22678706 Think of the recup process, electricity needed for -everything, not all have generators or how long do they last, even hospitals don't last forever, or they malfunction- know my hospital has and even a larger close hospital has and it is a nightmare. That means, every patient on a venitlator needs to be hand bagged to breathe, nothing electrical works, no high tech equipement, pumps for iv fluids, meds etc...surgeries cancelled. Patients at home with home oxygen/ equipement, cant stay there unless they have a working home generator(most don't). Clean up roads to allow emergency and repairs and water etc...lists go on and on. Think at home what you need electricity for, heck even to recharge your ipads and iphones. Do all even have landlines now? Rewfrigerators, stoves, etc Water- to drink, wash with, flush with, do dishes, cook with. Clean up flooding and mold. Not going to be fun. Was a pain for 3 days in the black out in 90 degrees, sure these folks have alot waiting for them. Some people are spending their 2nd night in the dark and heat. Mold is already growing and they can smell it.It's humid, hot, and unbearable in their houses. Most people probably have some sort of water in the homes somewhere. Even with a house that didn't leak, leaks are occurring because of the unrelenting rain. Insects and ants and animals come into the house. No where to get food, no AC, no electricity, no sewer, no water, no phones, food is starting to rot in the frig. In Hurricane Charley I only spent 1 night without electicity and that was miserable! So imagine what these people are going through! They have been through it many times before. Andrew, Rita, Katrina to name a few. I don't remember which one, but I know my folks were out of power for a week at the least. They bought ice for the coolers and fired up the bbq pits. Thats how they survived. |

Scary thought isn't it? And if those caverns and gas and oil pipelines supposedly go all the way up the mississippi river. i live about 30 miles from the sink hole Only on glp is it radioactive ufo base going to.mix with chemicals from round the world and explode with the power of 100 nuke bombsthe locals have missed all that info 940,000 gallons of Butane, if it was to totally vaporize into the air and you had a fuel-air explosion, is equivalent to about 361 tons of TNT, about 1/3 Kt. A big boom, but very, very small by nuclear standards. |
