Native American tribes within the USA are already technically sovereign nations, receiving foreign aid from the U.S. under the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

Lakota Nation declared its sovereignty back in 2007 already. I guess they're doing it again since no one paid attention the first time.

Means ran for president on the Libertarian ticket. From reading an article in Liberty magazine years ago. I think what he has in mind is a free country open to people who agree to the non aggression principle. I'm sure people will laugh and scoff at the idea.

perhaps 5% of the lakota would totally commit to seccession, the other 95% would not. The problem comes in when the elderly, etc need the Fed money ...and if the Lakota secede, who would provide for the needs of the tribe?

If you're serious Google Dawes rolls or Five Civilized Tribes.

Most tribal leaders won't accept census information. If you have a Native American ancestor, you probably know something about them. Name, tribe, reservation, place of birth, etc. Search the list for your relative.

If you can't find it on the Dawes or FCT, find what tribe your ancestor was and check their rolls.

Once you have all the information....ancestor's full name, presence on any Indian rolls, and exact relationship to you, then you contact the tribal enrollment office.

Tribal rules vary but most tribes require 1/4 blood quantum but as said, it varies. Eastern Cherokee requires only 1/16, while the Cherokee Nation has no minimum quantum as long as you can prove descent.

Blood quantum=One full blooded grandparent gives 1/4 blood quantum. Two half blooded grandparents give 1/4 blood quantum.

To apply for tribal membership you'd need a CDIB, Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood listing your blood quantum. It's issued by the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

Secondly, if you think ANY states (not NA "nations," but actual states) are going to secede, think again. There is NO WAY ANY state (corporation) is going to break off from the mothership (corporation). There are many reasons for this, the #1 being that they receive FEDERAL FUNDS that they are NOT going to give up.

True, but... That last bit is most important! They not only are receiving aid, but the feds are still largely telling them what to do (as they always have). That "sovereign" status is actually quite LIMITED. It's like a GUISE of sovereignty but isn't ACTUAL sovereignty.
