That poster was not shoving anything down your throat-- whatever that means. He/she was just testifying to the greatness of his/her God. Jesus is the Word of God made flesh and come to dwell with us. The Word was with God in the beginning and indeed is God.

What this means is that before Jesus was Jesus (the human), he was in spiritual for as one part of the triune God. This is how he can be the source of all love and hope because he IS love and hope and has been since before the world existed.

When someone tells you a child was harmed at the hands of a church, do you go to that child and offer "god" and suggest he go play with the priest again or do you have some respect for other people's pain?

I claim to be a Christian, as I was raised by God fearing parents, but like them, only practice it in my daily life (being good to others). I don't go to church. What has it given me? Actually, Jesus I believe promised he would leave the Holy Spirit for his believers and I have actually felt that presence at some tough times of this unseen presence. It is that experience that makes me a believer. Much of the other stuff is to control people. As far as Jesus taking "our sins" away...I think everyone needs to be responsible for whatever they do.

Nope, it actually wasn't. If you actually knew a thing about history or two you would realize this. The relatively stable government we have in the US and the Western Europe is unprecedented in history. Previous to that (and alongside with it in non-Christian countries) governments were always violent, rarely remaining stable beyond the life of the current regime leader. Only a handful of Roman leaders died of natural causes, and Rome was constantly roiled by civil wars throughout its history. Greek historians actually admired Rome for its relative stability, so says something about Greece. And not to mention all the other tribes and empires that immediately went into civil war as soon as the leader died.

Now is this love per se, probably not, but at least it can be attributed to the Christian influence of not immediately trying to kill someone you disagree with.

You are aware that the US imprisons more people than all other nations and that the second half of the thirteenth amendment allows slavery within the prison system...and that it is a booming and lucrative business, right?

If someone tells me a child is harmed at the hands of a church, I offer that God is not that church and to stay the fuck away from it... Since ancient times, people have used religion as a method of control and abuse. This is not representative of God though.

The reality is that to a hurting person, Jesus is one of the ONLY things that can truly heal you. Most people will only screw you over again and again. Jesus is not poison, he is life. I respect the fact you are in pain but I am simply trying to open your eyes to the fact that you need not wallow in it any longer.

I could care less about brownies and cupcakes in heaven, just getting there myself is enough of a reward. The reason I try and help is because I hate what has happened to people like yourself. I despise that children are used and abused. I am abhorred by the practices of many people who call themselves christian and claim to speak in God's name.
