Riggs - Sorry about the truck and the cost to fix. I remember first meeting you when you had about three months. You were a trailblazer to me (I think I may have had 20-some days). If I recall correctly, you said something about training your mind to go through the shit without a smoke. I thought that was genius and held on to it since (never said thank you for that, so thank you). You've been balls to the wall before and got to the other side. You'll do it again. Smoke-free and with the health to beat it all. Best to you and yours, Riggs.

Eight days is huge Canada. It's huge.

Did the relative you speak of smoke? Just a stray thought. Some smokers become real edgy with those of us quitting...

The other thought I had was the sadness is normal in any event when you quit you know. We get sad. We've lost that friend (nicotine) we thought we had that was not a friend at all...

How strange. A similar parallel... your relative was not who you thought she/he was and neither were cigarettes... A real life lesson there. You rose to the challenge! You did not smoke! You are made of sterner stuff!

Tomorrow is another day. Just one more day.

:)

Hi Grumpy,
She did smoke but quit around age 40 as well so she's one of those "ex-smoker nazi types" She definitely has a large chip on her shoulder.. Apparently my husband and I are "losers" for choosing to not have children. Although I had not had a cigarette for 7 days at that point, I should not be proud because I had not really accomplished "much" at that point.. Ughh it was pretty hurtful stuff spewing from her mouth.

I won't be seeing her again while she is here.. Your right, interesting parallel!
Tomorrow is definitely another day.. Thanks so much...
Guess better take my dog as he has his leash and is looking perturbed! hf

Hi quitters! Day 124 and its good to be smoke free, but I have to tell ya it has not been easy at all. Got the new estimate for getting my truck fixed and it had me sick all day. Nerves on edge wondering how were going to manage. I was thinking its a good thing that I quit smoking when I did so I could spend the money on other things that I had been putting off getting. But just when you are about to catch up something happens and knocks you down further than you were before. That's when the urge to smoke is greatest for me. Really its the nicotine and the calming of the nerves that I crave. I have been teaching myself to be calm by stopping for a moment and taking a deep breath and just clearing my mind, I find this helps to bring me away from the urge even further (I HAVE kicked the habit!) and gives me a little clarity to focus on the task or problem at hand. Hell, I don't think I would be doing so well health wise right now with all my troubles if I were still smoking. Damn it feels good to be a quitter! Congrats to all of you quitters going through your own personal hell. It gets better, you will find that your thoughts are changing about your whole life as well.
 Quoting: Riggsalent

i think reading eric carr's book would help you

i had to sever the faulty thinking i had with the connections i made between stress relief and smoking

it's really quite the contrary

once i grasped that smoking not only added to my stress but continued to allow me to never cope with stress on any real level

the idea that smoking is a stress reliever is a lie from the pit of hell

there are 8 million alternatives to stress relief that are genuine and not self destructive and way easier/cheaper to access

Seeing this thread on Christmas (not even reading it, just seeing it) was enough to reach the switch in my brain that connects to the 'enough is enough' lobe.

So, with no prior planning, I just quit cold turkey...begun by simply NOT buying any more cigarettes.

Today makes it a month! After the 21 day make-or-break-a-habit period, I figured all was good. Then I either caught a bizarre cold (symptoms every other day?!?!?!) or it's part of the process. I don't know, and hell, I don't care.

What I care about is the fact that I haven't slipped up once, and whatever cravings I have have diminished to the point of not even being a distraction.

So, thanks to Desert Fox for starting the thread, and for everyone who has bumped it at just the right moments when I was here to see it! Now I'm catching up and reading through it.

Now tomorrow I begin a water fast. I do those regularly, so I know what I'm getting into. SmileyGlas

I was a heavy smoker at one time. Between 40-50 cigs a day.

I realized that if I loved myself then I won't harm myself.

I realized that my government wants needs me dead before retirement. Soft kills everywhere!

I was told I was a smart guy. Then my friend told me why my body is telling my brain what to do. Wasn't that smart after all. As he was right!

So the next day I quit!! It's been 7 years now. I feel great! It's easier then you think.

MIND over matter!! Good luck! Goofy Thum

Double Nickles! Whoo-Hoo! Spots on dice and cats on mice. On it today!

Ran down the stairs this morning, greeted my family and asked my wife to recite.....

"Say I'm sad,
say I'm weary.
Say that health and wealth have missed me.
Say I'm growing old, but add,
a non-smoker kissed me."

The kids liked it. My wife handed me a shovel. I think it's for the snow outside, but I can't be sure with her.

Best to all.

Afternoon Everyone,

Frankie valley and the four seasons said it best...."Oh what a night"

I was playing with the new puppy last night around midnight (high energy dog from hell) trying to wear him out when he knocked a drinking jar off of the table into another glass breaking the jar and slashing the ever loving shit out of his right rear paw....

I get down on him and the blood is literally pouring out of the poor little fella, gather up my wits/ senses and the wife, drive to the extremely overpriced emergency vet to get it checked out...

He winds up having three gashes, the first two shallow and just into the pad but the third slashed between the pads and into the muscle structure of the paw. Explaining the excessive amount of blood.

600 bux and six hours later he is home and acting like nothing even happened.
This dog is so active and it's tough to keep him calm, even with drugging him out...lol

Worst part for me is that Brrr (name is Bear but since it's so damn cold out I call him Brrr) can't do out thrice daily walk in the woods for THREE WEEKS! till the wounds heal.
These walks have been my quitting salvation these last 52 days and I am REALLY gonna miss them.

Through it all the thought of smoking was always there, but us being the well oiled willpower machine, we are able to adapt and overcome.....

Hey thanks BX! Glad I can help someone to better their lives. I am grateful to Desert Fox for starting this thread around the time I quit. It has been a comfort to know that I am not alone. Congrats all quitters. Thanks for thinking about me Salt, I don't really have much free time to read, I work offshore and I work 14 hours a day so free time is looking at GLP for a bit a phone call home (10 stinking minutes) and off to bed to get up and do it all over again. I have been a source of inspiration for one guy here though, he has stopped for almost a month. It's hard here because there is a smoke area as soon as you go downstairs and there are a lot of smokers. I am to the point now that I cant even stand to be around someone who has been smoking. I feel kinda bad for the one's that have been around me all my smoking years that hated the smell. Well keep on quitting y'all!
