Any suggestions on how to forget an old love 25 years ago?

If you figure it out please let me know... I still think of my love from 20 years ago. I still miss her and often wonder what could have been and how my life would be different if I had not let her go.

YES! Go out with him/her for a few months. Better yet...move in with him/her, and you will understand why it didn't work 25 years ago.

I'm not kidding! I did it after being apart for 30 years. We actually tried to make it work for 10 years! 10 wasted years! Sex was great, but we wanted to kill each other any other time. Apparently two very different people 30 years ago and the same today. We don't change.

u just move on like everybody else does, be glad for the good times, everyone is going to die anyway and not at the same time, separation is a garentee in life.

Life sucks. A memory that I do not want stays in my mind forever. I would be willing to have surgery done to forget it if possible.

I can remember a few years ago, my boyfriend attempted suicide, his reason was based on his broken relationship with his children.

When he returned home, we sat and talked about his focus of energy, on how his life was happening now.

We cannot change our past, we can view it, but every little bit of focus and energy we put into the past is wasted energy, it makes us long for something that is not.

Whereas if we take out lessons of the past and let them stay there in the past, use our energy to make a better life for ourselves today. As today is all that you have.

There are times when lessons from the past can assist us in making a decision in today.

You are a different person that the person you were 25 years ago, you look different, act different, feel different.

All you have is the present, that is why it is called a gift.

Dwelling on this is bad for you.

You are slowly dieing inside...like faster than usual.

That sounds like a pretty big torture. But the reality is that they're probably not as great as they are in your head. But even if you know that logically, it probably won't help.

I still love her, always and forever, she is my hope, my joy, my sunshine and moonlight. But hell fire.. It's not the seeing her change that hurts, its the remembering who she was that kills me.

I don't know that anyone forgets their 1st love. It will always a special place in your heart.

I hope you aren't hurting a current relationship with this pain.

Step 1: Stop blaming yourself for how the circumstances played out. Forgive yourself. There is no luck or chance. What will be, will be. We are here to learn and to grow from challenges (experiences). These circumstances are simply a 'test' for you.

Step 2: Acknowledge that there is some void that you feel within which causes you to feel the need for someone else to complete you. It is not this person who creates this void, but something else within you. You must get at the source to move beyond this hurdle that you are experiencing. Placing your focus on this particular individual is trying to address the 'symptom' and not addressing the actual cause of the imbalance that you feel.

Sept 3: Realize that you are whole & complete all by yourself - no external attachments needed! You do not need another individual to complete you because you already are. When you learn to love yourself unconditionally you will FEEL this truth rather than merely trying to believe it in good faith.

Work on how you treat yourself and think about yourself. Do you currently own any pets or feel an affinity towards animals? A dog/cat is a great source of unconditional love. They operate outside the confines of human constructs. They will reflect back to you the love that you extend to them.

If you are not much of a pet person, then I would recommend extending kindness to others, even strangers. Little gestures, no matter how minute. In the process of extending kindness and non-judgement outwardly to others, you will begin to internalize and identify with those feelings within and slowly start to feel 'whole' again, as you should. When you were a child you knew this but the world taught us to forget. You will remember again. : )
