A vacant house exploded on the city's west side early Thursday, alarming residents and scattering debris through the streets of a neighborhood near Rhodius Park. The usually quiet neighborhood in the 1000 block of South Warman Avenue was rattled just before 1 a.m. by the explosion. Indianapolis Fire Department crews received several 911 calls from neighbors reporting an explosion and seeing a blue flash. When crews arrived in the neighborhood, they found debris strewn over more than two blocks from the explosion. "There is a lot of debris. There is insulation a block and a half down the street. There are windows out down the street and a lot of siding," said IFD spokeswoman Bonnie Hensley. One couple living in the neighborhood said a brick from the home flew through their window. Citizens Energy spokeswoman Sarah Holsapple said a break in a residential gas line likely caused the explosion. It clearly says, "West Side". lol |

The following was posted on Facebook: Dave Townsend 28 mins ago Not sure where people are getting the idea of a plane crash... more than likely it was a natural gas leak underground from a rotting pipe that this country is plagued with cause utilities wont spend the money to repair them... then you get this... an eye witness saying they saw insulation everywhere is a pretty good indication a house has exploded... hope nobody was injured Reply: Denise Faudree 8 mins ago Dave, I'm not sure where you get your information... but I work for the Gas Co. and we replace our underground gas lines regularly and they are not "rotting". We have some of the safest gas lines in the country because we replace our lines more frequently than mandated by the IURC. More often than not explosions are caused not by underground lines but the lines inside the home or the appliances which are the homeowner's responsibility. So, even if it was a "gas explosion" which has not been proven yet (nor will it be until the investigation is complete) it was very likely not the underground pipes. My prayers are with the families... [link to www.facebook.com (secure)] |
