I detail motorcycles for a living and I need a meditation technique thatvi can do while at work. I Rica lot of sweeping and polishing bikes. It is hard to obtain a silent mind but I can I just can't help but wonder if there is anything I can do to meditate while moving.

I have found that simply being in the "now" or the "moment" can be a very useful practice. Focus only on the task at hand will help you discipline your mind. With practice comes expertise.

Ha!

You should look into the book "Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance".

Doing a mundane job while working with your hands is supposed to help you clear your mind. Just focus on the job at hand and you will be in a state of meditation. You must consciously try and incorporate a state of a clearer mind into your day to day life at ALL times. A good start would be by practicing on just focusing on the job at hand only when at work and also staying mindful of your emotional state as often as possible. take notice when someone or something is bothering you and just ask yourself why it bothers you and what's the big deal anyway. Try not to loose your patience because something is not going the way you wish for it to go. Whatever happens, happens, and the best thing you can do is stay positive about any situation, so to keep your focus and a clear mind(nothing good ever comes out of frustration or anger). It does take practice, but in due time, you will begin to get the hang of it. You have a decent work environment to help you with this. A clear and focused mind is a mind in a meditative state. Clearing the clutter in your mind relieves the flow of awareness, just as a clear fuel line relives the flow of gas, for more power.

A clear mind is powerful

Good luck:)

dont fight your mind, just watch it. without prejudice.
Well, but no many can do that...

Very powerful: when you inhale say in your mind 'I', when you exhale say in your mind 'AM'...

again, dont try to inhale or exhale, just watch when it happens, you say those words.

Time will seem to speed up, and continue to. Time will not be on your side anymore, lol. Because you will be drifting away from it and closer to the divine way of things(without time). I made the mistake of trying to promise times on job's due on the same day and it just does not work for me anymore, lol. Now when someone asks when something will be done, I say it will be done when it is done, and i will get it done as soon as i am allowed to have it done. Or something along those lines. Lets just say i know better than to promise a time on things now. It is quite interesting that when i get a job done, its seems to be at the right time all the time. Even if you feel you are being rushed. When it is done, it will always be at the right time for both parties. This is the divine way. And when you are more aligned with it..

You have all the time in the world:)

Re: Do any meditation techniques work while your at work and actively moving?
Raja yoga(king yoga) is open eyed meditation.

no poses etc, just learning to meditate eyes open. Most people learn to meditate with closed eyes, so there are mant states they never learn to access moving normally because theyve programmed themselves to only be still with closed eyes meditating.

this can be adapted to working, walking etc so the state becomes rote in daily life.Brahma Kumaris teach this for free(not that id suggest getting heavily involved with one type of school of thought) its very handy for achieving just the thing youre looking to do- bring that state forward to use while open eyed and awake.

Re: Do any meditation techniques work while your at work and actively moving?
I do similar work and I have done imagination exercises while doing it.

For instance, imagine that you are detailing the motorcycle in some alley shop in Bangkok. Imagine the street sounds, the glimpse of people walking by, the children's shouts, the smells, etc.

You can try to develop your entire life experience if you were a motorcycle detailer living in Bangkok. It doesn't matter if you have ever been there or have any clue what it would be like, just make it up out of thin air, however you want. Pick any location you want, you could be alone in the middle of Nebraska with no neighbors for 20 miles, what would that be like, picture the sky and the horizon, where you are living and working, the outbuildings, your dog and other animals, name them! Who's coming to visit? Make up names and life histories for all of them. Make up your own hinterland-Nebraska alter ego name and world view.

I have pictured myself pushing a mop and sweeping on the deck of a ship in the ocean, felt the movement, and the salt air, it's very amusing.
