Back in 99 I bought the wife a new Grad Cherokee Laredo, at 14000k miles the rotors had to be turned. At 25000 miles (2002) I had to install new rotors, 3 years/piad out of pocket. Again with 41200 miles again new rotors. At 45000 miles the main bearing in the read shattered, they had no explanation as to why? Less than 1000 miles later the engine cooling fan (again bearings) unit had to be replaced. In 4.5 years that she had the piece of junk, I spent over $2300.00 for items that should not have wore out. Then after trading the piece of junk in, 8 months later Jeep announced a recall for the brakes. I contacted the dealer (bought and maintenance) to request copies of all work they had done, I wanted to reimbursed for the monies I spent on the brakes. As I was told, they purge all information once the vehicle is resold. Was screwed out of $1300 dollars. In 1996 I bought the wife a new Grand Am, less than 600 miles the tranny internals shattered. Told they never seen anything like it, then traded it in for the jeep, again nothing but crap. So in 2004 purchased a 4 Runner, best decision vehicle wise I ever made. Still have it and plan to.

The 1999 Trans Am that carries me into Ankh Morpork and back to the estate each day has over 300,000 miles on the original LS1 and T56 transmission. The Royal Mechanic has informed me that besides the routine oil and filter changes, serpentine belt replacements, air filter cleanings, tire replacements, etc., the following events have occurred since the vehicle's purchase: Replaced spark plugs at 100,000. Replaced struts and shocks are 145,000. Replaced clutch and pressure plate at 165,000. Replaced windshield at 170,000.(excessive stone chips) Rebuilt rear differential at 175,000.(wheel bearings, pinion bearing, carrier bearings, new pinion and drive gear) Replaced spark plugs again at 200,000. Repainted vehicle at 210,000. Replaced one broken beehive valvespring at 240,000. Replaced windshield at 280,000. (more stone chips) Replaced stock struts and shocks with Bilstein equipment at 285,000. Replaced the starter at 288,000. Replaced rack & pinion, power steering pump and all hydraulic lines at 295,000. The vehicle was paid off in 2004. It does not burn oil to this day, and tests show high and nearly equal compression at all 8 cylinders. I would have to say that the cost of maintenance and upkeep has been worth the effort over buying a new vehicle. For what its worth, a new GM LS6 crate engine is in storage in the royal garage awaiting the eventuality of the LS1 being retired permanently. GM computer controlled LS1 and downstream LSx engines are worthy of serious kudos to the GM engineers of that era. Mayhap they've all retired, and less capable men are now trying to fill their shoes? I'm happy with my lifted '02 Jeep WJ with 4.7 V8 and the NV247 transfer case with front and rear limited slip. Plenty of power with a smooth ride and the solid front and rear axles are beefy. I have driven Chevy trucks since 1991. I now drive a 2011 Silverado. I don't see what the Chevy haters are going on about. All vehicles have problems. I think trying to bash all of GM products because of one experience in a rental is rather ignorant. My Chevy is not as fast as a Dodge, doesn't pull as hard as a Ford, yet it is WHAT I WANT TO DRIVE. I LIKE MY SILVERADO.

I drive a Silverado for the same reason that I used to drive Audi's. I like the way it makes me feel when I go down the road. As long as it's reasonably reliable that is all I care about.
