Plasmare User ID: 1443244 Australia 12/04/2012 11:33 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Actually the temperature of the cloud is not enough to heat up a cup of coffee much less an entire solar system. I should know since I'm the one who brought all this information regarding "fluffy" to GLP. It's not dense enough. It has been changing our solar environment which in turn is changing the terrestrial environment in ways much too complicated for the average person to even comprehend. Even if we run into denser regions, the temperature alone is not enough. It's all the other characteristics that play a larger role. On a side note, Tesla had a personal theory where he likened the planet to a capacitor which can grow and shrink depending on the conditions in space and cosmic rays/radiation (they weren't known as cosmic rays back then and were only a theory). The change is about 3-5% but that would be enough to cause cracks and breaks in the ground beneath us, I would imagine. |

However, the size is so huge that it causes a strong magnetic field. This field interplays with the magnetic field of the heliosphere. Yes this is allowing cosmic radiation to enter the solar system. I also believe it is compressing the heliosphere increasing the density inside the solar system. This is causing havoc with all the planets, including earth. There seems to be some vagueness as to the current position of the solar system with respect to the gas cloud. How far into this cloud is the solar system now and how will further ingress impact the solar system? |

How far into this cloud is the solar system now and how will further ingress impact the solar system? I've already discussed all this before in great detail, so to save myself the trouble I will just paste a link to it here. If the cloud was dense enough (it's not homogeneous) in certain areas, which would possibly be billions and trillions of KMs in size, you would know it was here... Thread: Dense interstellar space clouds (like the one we're entering) and you, what will happen? Can cause magnetic reversal. There is no way to tell the rate our heliosphere has shrunk since we never knew where it was to begin with, tens of thousands of years ago (approx.). All we can do is estimate the boundary using Voyager until it passes through it. "Consequences of the Solar System passage through dense interstellar clouds" by Priscilla C. Frisch is a good example what would happen, I have the info in that post but I can't remember where and GLP is acting up right now. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1246336 SAG** and SRM** have very likely been major contributing factors to the current methane “planetary emergency” now occurring on the East SIberian Shelf. This emergency, as stated by the research scientists involved, is the massive methane expulsion from the sea floor. Methane hydrates have now reached a temperature which will no longer allow its former retention in hydrate form on the sea floor. This warming of the oceans has been fueled in large part by the spraying. Though SAG and SRM can achieve significant cooling anomalies over large areas, it comes at a cost of a far worse overall global warming. The gravity of this methane event can not be overstated. Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 26169464 United States 12/08/2012 10:08 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A 'test case' for how undersea deposits of methane — a greenhouse gas locked in sediments — might respond to climate change has been uncovered in the Arctic Circle. The shallowest known deposit of methane hydrate — a crystalline solid comprising methane molecules trapped in an ice-lattice structure — has been discovered on the continental slope off Canada in the Beaufort Sea. The trapped gas deposit is located in an area of small conical hills on the ocean floor just 290 metres below sea level. Before the discovery, the shallowest known marine gas-hydrate deposits were found in the Gulf of Mexico and in the vicinity of the Svalbard Islands at depths of around 400 m, says Charles Paull, a senior scientist at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute in Moss Landing, California, who presented the work on Thursday at the annual meeting of the American Geophysical Union in San Francisco, California1.
