Re: Psoriasis Folks...a few questions if you will?
My experience FWIW:

Had psoriasis for a number of years, especially around the hairline.

Was diagnosed with viral meningitis and they pumped me full of the most powerful antibiotics possible as a precaution.

Skin came off hands and feet and psoriasis disappeared. This was nearly twenty years ago, but my palms and soles are still baby soft.. v.strange.
 Quoting: Smith Jefferys

Aha! This is interesting. I'm sure you mean that they gave you powerful anti-virals? (Viral Meningitis being, well, viral..)

HPV is also viral.

So Anti-viral medications cured you of psoriasis, almost as if by mistake as far as the Doctors are concerned. Do I have this right?
 Quoting: Lada D

No, they were antibiotics for definite. The virus itself isn't dangerous, but there's always the chance that it can trigger an infection in the meninges leading to proper damage.

The antibiotics were a precaution against that.

Anti-virals are too powerful for this sort of condition - viral meningitis can knock you for six certainly - I had post-viral fatigue for years and never truly got back to 100%, but not bad enough to risk permanent damage to some organs with powerful anti-virals.

Re: Psoriasis Folks...a few questions if you will?
.....extensive allergy picture, is that for you it may be cats, but for me, it is much larger than that. For both of us, I believe the occurance of psoriasis is due more to over exposure to allergens, which created a state of hyper-allergic-responses in our bodies and demonstrated itself in the form of angry itchy painful red welts under skin layers which seem to grow faster than they can shed and underdeveloped new skin which now can not provide it's intended purpose of protection to our bodies at the site it is most needed. The swollen patches of psoriasis.

Disclaimer: My analogy of the immune system and recommendations do not apply to anybody who is dealing with an anaphylactic reaction of any sort. If you have an anaphylactic reaction do not entertain the idea of allowing even trace ammounts of that allergen in/on your body.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6753462

Agree. Our immune systems top off to how saturated it is and then manifest in hyper-immune responses when it reaches the "breaking point" or "broken immunity" when it just can't manage overwhelmed input anymore and just says NO to most everything.
If you're lucky you get more reactions when older, but these days under age 10 way too often.

I don't have psoriasis (or a cat) but have a host of skin reactions to petrol, pesticide compounds, vaccines, antibiotics and a very short list of things I am able to eat.
I was changed overnight biting into one shrimp after a long course of unnecessary antibiotic treatment. Stopped digesting my food, head to toe rash. Lost 20 years of my life I have no doubt at this point.

Overwhelm is the common condition.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 16213681

Amen. Sorry for your 'loss' and it sure does seem that way when you get a particularly bad reaction. I would not be surprised to find a study which proves it at some point in the future.

^^Me too.

Went floating down a river in an innertube (tractor tire) and had to fight off a nasty rash for the next 9 months.

Lost all feeling in my mouth, tongue, lips, teeth after antibiotics. Nice eh? something similar to psoriasis or oral yeast developed next and my lips peeled 4 or 5 times a day for the next year. So painful. Finally kicked it with Vit E, which is a blood thinner and caused other problems. When I went off the vit E, the peeling and numbing was back. Used B12, which provided a milder but steady improvment and I'm about back to normal.

Re: Psoriasis Folks...a few questions if you will?
I can tell this, if you have toxoplasmosis, psoriasis would be the least of your worries. There is no clear link between the two.

If you have cats and are going to have a baby, it would be wise to get tested for T. Gondii.

You really need to go to your primary care physician and get a full blood work up.

The immune system is terribly complex and checking your immune function is key in determining what is ailing you.

You are asking an age old question in regards to the relationship between cats and psoriasis. There is no clear answer.

I bet stress is your underlying factor in having a somewhat weaker immune function.

See a doc. Best wishes. :-)

Re: Psoriasis Folks...a few questions if you will?
HPV is very common. If anyone has had sex, you most likely have it. Dormant in most cases.
 Quoting: PokerFace

You will call this off topic, however itis something you should know if youare truly going to do a real study.

Ihave found that kitties, after sex, begin to, for the first time in their lives, lose fur. Thatis when they begin to "shed", not before. Also the texture of their fur changes and loses its original glory.

Also upon puberty (their first heat), many, especially, sadly noticeable, if they donot get pregnant, get literally sick. This isnot related to mating in any way, but i suspect the urinary/vaginal tract opens up in some manner and draws in bacteria from the kitty litter.

I wish you God Speed in your studies, and remember to get back to us, when you become famous. Our fee is quite small in comparisontounge
 Quoting: tryth 23958376

These two posts are on topic but are not answers to the questions I've posted. I'm trying to keep this thread tight...questions, answers.

Regarding HPV, I've heard 1 out of 3 sexually active people have it. That's from Dr. Drew, and that stat was from 10 years ago. I'm not ashamed of the HPV nor should anyone else be, it's just going to happen.

As for the cat vagina, yes, that's probably how they get infected with this (Forgot the term) but that's neither here or there for the questions I've asked. Trivia.
 Quoting: Lada D

wrong: only through search and study will you find the answer. Itis there, but you have to dig for it, something weare/cannot do for you. Youare overlooking too many things (hasty); youwill never make it. I feel either your suffering is great (for you), or youhave an agenda. Calm down and let love and caring lead you.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23958376

Yes, everybody is providing clues. Discard those you could also discard the key relational solution.
In the meantime a mom (above) found something to allay her daughter's symptoms.
Everybody benefits.

Hello, i have had cat's since '87.I got my Psoriasis in '93.
Mostly I got it related to my work. Since '87 I work in the Polyester industry(Glasfiber sprying, gelcoating etc).Lots in contact with solvents(aceton, styrene) end also organic peroxides. When I started using powdered latex gloves, I got it also on my hands. Tryd everything to get rid of it.
Still have it mostly on my hands, elbows and knees. Very recently a got this link.

It's a Dutch company in the city of Veendam, where I used to live for more then 40 years, never knew that this Magnesium salt (purest in the world) is so good for curing Psoriasis, what irony. This salt is even much better then the Dead Sea salt.

Re: Psoriasis Folks...a few questions if you will?
Everything is affecting your glutithione level! Toxins, stress, injury, aging, hell even working out. Your damaged or compromised immune system is not adequately able produce Glutithione. The depleted glutithione is not able to prop up and enable the immune system to function properly. It is a cycle! That is why we age (and some faster than others). Our bodies are dealing with far too many stressors. Given the right tools and an effective way to deal with all that is assaulting us will level the playing field and we, as in nature, will be able to effectively heal ourselves as much as our body can by being able to function as it should.

Had severe psoriasis for most of my adult life. I'm 48 and it was getting worse, scabs all over my legs and head. I went to a naturopath and stopped Gluten completely for 7 months. I've tried to stop Gluten before and couldn't do it. This time I persevered and "healed" my gut. How do I know it's healed? My psoriasis is gone. I don't even have scars. I used to be so embarrassed that I NEVER wore shorts becuase it looked like my legs had been attacked by fleas and I had itched them until they bled.

GET OFF GLUTEN! 90% of your immune system happens in your gut. Heal it and be free of psoriasis.

Re: Psoriasis Folks...a few questions if you will?
I have psorsis. A hereditary gift from my dad. I always had a small patch about the size of a dime on my upper arm. (no cats) In the mid 80's I got strep throat which cause my psorsis (guttate) to break out severly all over (still no cats). It took several years and lots of sunshine for it to go back to a small patch. I am now a chemo patient. The meds have triggered another severe outbreak (2 cats). I treat it with 10 minute visits to a tanning bed once a week (too cold out for sunshine therapy), long soaks in almond and grapeseed oil along with very finely ground oatmeal. Coco butter once out of the bath and dry. I'm sure that once off the chemo the psorsis will once again go away. Good luck friend! My prayers are with you.Goofy Thum
 Quoting: CalmSerenity

Amen this.

I treat mine with exceptional doses of 10000 iu's vit D and religious visits to the salon. In the summer I prefer the God given natural sunshine. :) Usually during the hours of 11am -2pm, during the 'cancer' period and I do it without sunscreen. Mine is in the hair and I rinse with apple cider vinegar. I don't think it gets rid, just prevents flare ups from bacterial causes. Keeps my scalp tight. :)
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6753462

I do a shot of bragg's every night from 3 nights ago, but I don't use it topically. I figure if Psoriasis is ultimately intestinal, topical treatments aren't going to do anything except possibly suppress or force the psoriasis into a new location.

I used to go to tanning beds and the skin would clear up, almost totally (stupid elbows!) but the psoriasis would enter my joints and I'd be limping about.
 Quoting: Lada D

Used to do a shot of apple cider/honey every morning. I swear it was getting me 'drunk' for about an hour afterwards though so I quit. Loved it otherwise. :) I should take it back up at night, since they can't fire me if I'm not at work right?

Amen this except I wouldn't say it's gluten for everybody. But aboslutely your immune system is so intermingled with your gut and digestion it's not even funny. Figure out through trial and error. If one suggestion doesn't work, try another. Eventually you will find it and the psoriasis will show the progress you've made.

Fungus is amongus (mold, yeast etc.)

have you tried Tinactin (foot) powder? Just spray it right on. Stings like "L", but for just a second or two.

Strange that ithasnot spread. Get a biopsy if it doesnot go away, and make sure YOU get the records or a copy in your hand that you can take home to add to your records.

Why do we worry so about chronic skin rashes etc? "Cancer", especially now what with Fukushima.

Read about the women who wrote about her experiences with Autism in "The Journey: Home from Autism" in the last chapter she talks about how she came across the original formula for this glutithione-enhancing supplement and was able to eventually wean her son off 12 different pills and the GLCF diet. No more leaky gut.

Radiation? glutithione is your front line protection against radiation and other toxins. And it recycles itself and enhances other vitamins and nutrients

As I get it, magnesium is very important to your body. Where I used to live in Veendam, there are lots of saltcaverns harbering that magnesiumsalt. Since the eighties it's been delved and processed by Nedmag( before that Biliton. Since '07 the company Zechsal uses it for medical purpuse. I started just recently using the spray, I let you know if it works.

I've had psoriasis since I was 19, got it in 1994. I was mostly contained to an area on my head until 1999 when it started to slowly spread. In 2008 I lived w/ 2 cats for 7 months. I never really thought about before, but after reading your thread, I realize that about that time, my psoriasis started spreading to my arms and back.... Connection? I don't know, let me know what you find out.

I used to be extremely allergic to Cats. reds eyes, sneezing, blotchy skin and wheezing throat. So i have always kept clear of them and have obviously never kept cats.

I had Psoriasis pretty bad for a few years in my mid twenties. I hardly have it at all now, just a small patch on my chest and elbows.

The only things that helped in my experiance are:

T-gel for scalp and (hairy) chest

hydro-cortisone to ease itching on legs

Betnivate for really bad, thick cracked and sore skin.

No natural remedies i'm afraid, though general healthy living, lots of water and happy positive outlook will conquer it.

I've had ps for years. It's been terrible since I moved to the desert NW of Phoenix. I'm just here for awhile though, then back to the coast where it's better for me.

I work with dogs and have had quite a few cats. My ps has nothing to do with the animals. As a matter of fact, it's worse now and I don't have any cats.

The dry desert air PLAYS HELL with psoriasis. It's awful. And the medical system here has nothing to do with 'health care" at all. Sorry for the rant.

Father-in-law has a bad case of psoriasis, had three cats.

So far as I know, had psoriasis his whole life, developed before cats.

He is not allergic to cats.

No idea about HPV as carrier. My one friend with HPV has no cats and no psoriasis.

Healing, and good luck!
