Lucky Charms User ID: 30376174 Ireland 12/19/2012 10:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I just want to say this, been thinking it over. A lot of gestures Americans make like this often come across as overly dramatic and somewhat cheesy to us godless foreigners... but that's just the American way, big, bold and brash. Dramatic and symbolic... That's just how you guys express yourselves. Sometimes it's too much but seeing this story I think maybe in other countries there are too little of these big expressive gestures sometimes. I mean, this man will likely never have to actually do anything, the school will likely never be attacked or whatever... but that's not really the point is it? It's a symbolic gesture... and dude I tell ya, if I was there I'd stand shoulder to shoulder with him (or likely head to shoulder, he's prolly a big guy). All I can do is express my solidarity with you yanks at this time of deep pain, I feel genuine anguish at this tragedy. Anyway, that was a clumsy speech but I meant it... I'm going back to the UFO threads. 'Magically Delicious' |

I smell a psyop. Maybe to get people used to the idea that government/military should step in for the community when the police fail to protect the people. Odd that an armed officer wouldn't be on guard at all times instead of this unarmed concerned parent. Think about it. |

The_Brave User ID: 1630959 United States 12/19/2012 11:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I appreciate his good will and understand his gesture. But somebody has to bring up the obvious or at least what most parents want to do. --- What would happen if I put on my gear and stood watch over my loved ones school? --- They would call the police on me and we would have a terrible sad incident on our hands, and all I wanted to do was stand watch over the school. That's the sad part. Civilians cannot stand, only those chosen or those who the "State" seems fit. Just a point to bring up, I commend his mentality. |

We need more people in uniforms at our schools. One local district is going to have a police officer present at the entrance of the school everyday. That way the crazy people in the world believe that there is going to be someone to shoot back. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 27310787 United States 12/19/2012 11:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A former Marine and father of two decided to help ease his daughter's fears after the tragic school shooting in Connecticut late last week by standing guard outside her west Nashville school. Jordan Pritchard served eight years in the Marine Corps and was honorably discharged last May. Over the weekend, Pritchard said his daughter told him she was scared to return to school following the Connecticut tragedy. "As a dad, I can't have that. I can't have my daughter come to school worried about somebody coming in and hurting her," Pritchard said. He added, "To settle her peace of mind, who better than her dad to come out here and stand in front of the school?" Pritchard told Nashville's News 2 he dusted off his Marine Corps uniform and has been standing guard in front of the school since Monday. "This uniform represents more than who I am as a person. Me being out here may just be enough to stop somebody, some misguided, mislead person from doing something crazy. That was my goal and to ease my daughter's mind," he said. Standing guard at the school has not only eased his daughter's mind it has also been very reassuring to other parents. "Just to know that symbolic uniform that represents protection is here at Gower [Elementary] is just heart warming. It's peaceful, it brought a tear to my eye yesterday," parent Lucy Hipp said. Grandmother Karyn Brown added, "It is a sense of comfort to know that people will step up and take responsibility in the community to protect our youngest." [link to www.wkrn.com] What school is it? I understand what is on their minds an can appreciate the concern. As parents we should help out with awareness and not let this extra precaution fade within the later school months. H |
