He is not a professor, does not not hold a
doctoral degree.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 15341514

Only in USA and Canada, but in the rest of the world the title is gave to anyone who teaches. Professor McCanney is not a doc, but he taught Math for University Level for years in Cornell in Physics and Math departments and to some Universities in Latin America. So he have international career in Academics in University Level so HE IS a Professor.
 Quoting: glauco

Well this phd washout has now proven he is not an expert at astronomy. He's proven he can't even be trusted to tell the truth.
 Quoting: Dr. Astro

He is Mathematician, Physicist, Master in Solid States and Nuclear Fusion. What is astronomy other than physicist, math and observations applied to the stars?? Don't forget that physicists have a lot of more physics than astronomers!

been following this guy, is an independent fully qualified scientist but does not sell out to the mainstream religion BS lies (NASA et al)

now he has just posted on some new data on ISON

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1482109

What a dipshit. He's full of shit. ISON does not have any "companions." I'll tell what happened, he saw this image floating around on conspiracy forums like this one claiming it shows "companions" near comet ISON and he latched onto it:
Thread: Comet C/2012 S1 ISON is being followed
These sorts of images often show asteroids as well as hot pixels, but those asteroids are nowhere near the comet, and the hot pixels are not even real objects at all. I'm betting he didn't even notice the asteroid at the top of the above image:
[link to www.godlikeproductions.com]

Hot pixels don't even form point-spread functions, which is why that dipshit McCanney exclaimed that it "hadn't formed a coma." The lack of a point-spread function means it's not a real object, it's just noise in the imager. Asteroids and other real objects in space such as 2002 TY164 do, however, making them easy to distinguish. Obviously McCanney did not realize that.

Voltaic, you don't seem to understand what the claim was. McCanney claimed these were orbiting objects. He still claims it. He claims the comet is that massive. He's wrong, full stop. And now he's lying too. He's not making any observations, pete Lawrence did that, he's making false claims. And don't equivocate with that "more study is needed" bs, that's Judy his way of begging for more hits to his shitty site.

I don't, and it seems I'm getting caught up on the wrong side.

I'm not defending a BSer, just pointing out my views. I suppose it all comes across different on your end.

Please, proceed with the intellectual lashing and expose the BSer.

After looking closer, it is obvious McCanney is out to make money on others collective fears stemming from post 2012 emotions. In this case, no one observed anything real, except for dreams of $$$.

Be honest Voltaic, you never looked to McCanney's work. Your opinion are being taken by one post in one forum in the internet about a real person and a real scientist. Nobody without professional high grade equipments can see anything else than a fuzzy light coming from Jupiter now. He qualifies this as giant comet due to other reasons, not direct observations. If you know so much about McCanney's work, why don't you tell us what is wrong in his comet model? I give you the path to find his theoretical work published by Cornell, go ahead, read and bring us your real PhD opinion.

I see the only mistake being made here is the claim of campanions orbiting the Comet.

We all know how Meteor showers are created. Right. Tail Debris.

This thing is huge. Why would it not have campanions as he put it in its tail.Big ones even.

That seems pretty likely to me.

Take out the ORBIT word and its all pretty plausible.

That is not what I said......I had a feeling you wouldn't understand.

What I said was, nothing large enough to be visible to us would orbit a comet. I did mention it possible for something the size of an atom to orbit but that is so small we can dismiss it.

I don't have to read McCanneys work to know about ISON. And I DO know ISON better then most. AS far as the path ISON is taking, that proves it's size. Which proves there are no orbiting bodies around ISON, being they would be so small you would need a microscope to see them.

And Dr Astro is just another GLPer, I know him no better then a few passing posts to each other. However, I have read his posts and I know his style. He is a wise person.

That is a flat-out lie. When NASA showed Pete's images, they still contained the hot pixels. He's just making shit up.

Yes, I really am, but thanks to the multiple death threats I have received here you will not be seeing any personally identifiable information about me here. Funny that you automatically believe a guy who couldn't hack it in a PhD program and is lying to you over a guy who actually did attain his PhD in a scientific field and is telling you the truth. All you have to do is look at NASA's YouTube video for yourself and you can see that McCanney lied. The hot pixels are still there in Pete's images (the first images presented of the comet) "following" the comet.

 Quoting: Dr. Astro

Dr Astro, what is the problem if Professor decided to talk about data he is yet analysing? Take a look at Professor's page on what he said. He didn't used this video or images to claim that this is a giant comet or to have companions. He have other sources of informations, and other factors plays in place for him to said that this comet MAY have companions.
 Quoting: glauco

You're equivocating. The dude lied. Real scientists don't publish their conclusions before they've analyzed their data, and they publish their data. Where is his astrometric data on these companions? He has none, he is irresponsible for making false conclusions.
 Quoting: Dr. Astro

Man, be more attentive! Read it again and the following posts. He don't published any conclusions regarding if this comet have or not companions because, as he said, he is yet analyzing it.
 Quoting: glauco

No, you're equivocating. He said, and I quote "WHEN SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPENS ONE HAS TO BE VERY CAUTIOUS BUT AFTER EXAMINING THE DATA THAT I HAVE SEEN I WOULD SAY THAT IT APPEARS TO BE REAL ... FURTHERMORE ONE OF THE POSSIBLE COMPANIONS APPEARS TO BE AT ABOUT TWO LUNAR DISTANCES (HALF A MILLION MILES) AND HAS NOT FORMED A COMA FOR SOME ODD REASON "
Despite his lame ass attempt at throwing in a "CYA" statement at the beginning, he said he has examined the data and "it appears to be real." He goes on to tell us how far these so-called companions are from the comet. Those are conclusions that he has now published despite not providing any data to back it up. Saying it's "too early to confirm" does not excuse his bullcrap conclusions that any real astronomer, even an amateur one, would have realized was garbage based on camera noise (hot pixels). This started right after Pete's images hit the web and people started claiming they showed "companions" on this forum and others.
And he *is not* using that Spaceweather.com, ScienceAtNasa or Pete's video.
 Quoting: glauco

Yes, he is. He changed his mind about it on his second post, after I debunked his bullshit on this forum as well as others. He makes reference to that as well, accusing me of being a "disinfo agent." I never linked to spaceweather, but I did accuse him of starting a heavens-gate like rumor and I did reference Pete's images. So of course now he tries to back pedal taking full advantage of the fact that he never actually posted any data to back up what he said and acts like that's a good thing... idiot. Yes, there are other videos of ISON that show hot pixels and known asteroids near the comet, including some from Italy which are arguably higher quality images than Pete's.
[link to 2.bp.blogspot.com]
There are still no "companions" to the comet however. Just hot pixels and known asteroids which are nowhere near the comet in space.
He is a scientist, he must have his own sources.
 Quoting: glauco

LMFAO! You're hilarious. Just blatantly assume it eh?
His only conclusion, up to now, is that this is a big comet,
 Quoting: glauco

He based that conclusion in his first post about it based on the so-called companions which he says are orbiting. I explained all this already as well as why it WOULD have to be massive for objects to be orbiting it at 2 LD's. They aren't though, they're just freaking hot pixels.
His only error regarding this issue is that he is wrong when said that the disinfo crew (as he call it), had used two videos for bailing lunatics: one with supposed companions and other one without them, as in reality there was only one.
 Quoting: glauco

He flat-out lied. He saw the video NASA posted, the hot pixels are right there. He is a liar, nothing more. Watch, he'll probably come out in a day or two and lie again and say NASA magically put the hot pixels back into the video to make him look like a liar.

1-) He never ever stated his thoughts regarding companions on C/2012 S1 with these Pete's images, he have his own source of informations. Every time in past 10 years of weekly radio shows that he uses NASA or any other publicly available sources, he states immediately;

2-) Generally people first take a MS or Doc degree before going to PhD, this is the path he followed. If you knew McCanney's history, you would know that he was about to take his PhD course on Cornell, but he decided to first get hired as a substitute teacher to use good space data. He had problems with Astronomic department at Cornell, who don't likes people around talking about Electric Universe, so he get fired and decided to not get a PhD status.

3-) You push authority and uses too much scold.

He's just taking what conspiracy forums have put out and using it for his own site. Yes, there are other images of ISON that were used to claim "companions" as well, but Pete's images were first. He now retreats from Pete's images because they were thoroughly debunked and the astrophotographer himself contacted. Now that astrophotographer must be dismissed by him and regarded as part of the conspiracy.
 Quoting: glauco

He's a washout. An MS in physics is a consolation prize for someone who couldn't make it through a PhD program. At least he admits he got fired. Oh, but of course he has excuses for everything. Funny how you blindly believe this liar yet ignore the people who actually take pictures like this.
3-) You push authority and uses too much scold.
 Quoting: glauco

No I do not. I do not appeal to my own authority. I do not claim to be right because I have a PhD or because I'm an astrophotographer with 17 years experience in amateur astronomy and 13 years experience in astrophotography. I'm right because that's what the evidence shows. My experience and knowledge have nothing to do with it, they're just the tools I use to find the answers. I just find it ironic that you appeal to a false authority when someone who actually has the higher degree is telling you otherwise. It's just beautiful irony. It's clear that you will just believe whatever BS spills out of McCanney's mouth because you think he's some kind of authority on the subject. Well pal, this incident has proven he is no authority at all. In fact it proves he has no idea what the hell he's talking about. Where is his astrometric data? Where are his images? They don't exist. But don't worry, I think I can help with that...

Despite his lame ass attempt at throwing in a "CYA" statement at the beginning, he said he has examined the data and "it appears to be real." He goes on to tell us how far these so-called companions are from the comet. Those are conclusions that he has now published despite not providing any data to back it up.
 Quoting: Dr. Astro

Man, are you stalking Professor?? Are you paid for that??
Yes, there are other videos of ISON that show hot pixels and known asteroids near the comet, including some from Italy which are arguably higher quality images than Pete's.
 Quoting: Dr. Astro

First you assume with all your teeth that Professor used the Pete's images and, but now you assume that there are better sources than Pete's one. So how do you know which one he got?

There are still no "companions" to the comet however. Just hot pixels and known asteroids which are nowhere near the comet in space.
 Quoting: Dr. Astro

Probably, will see.

LMFAO! You're hilarious. Just blatantly assume it eh?
 Quoting: Dr. Astro

You just assumed that there are other sources of information other then Pete's images, so why are you so affirmative that Professor got the one you want?

He based that conclusion in his first post about it based on the so-called companions which he says are orbiting. I explained all this already as well as why it WOULD have to be massive for objects to be orbiting it at 2 LD's. They aren't though, they're just freaking hot pixels.
 Quoting: Dr. Astro

Download Professor's radio shows from October to past week and you will see how long he states this is a big comet.
He flat-out lied. He saw the video NASA posted, the hot pixels are right there. He is a liar, nothing more. Watch, he'll probably come out in a day or two and lie again and say NASA magically put the hot pixels back into the video to make him look like a liar.
 Quoting: Dr. Astro

Actualy he talks about this NASA's video days before all this hype started, and he does not talks about any companions.

Re: BREAKING: Scientist claims comet ISON has companions!
...

Well, first off I trust Dr Astros word over many here, including you. Years of reading and, after the fact guess who was right time and time again.......your friend Dr Astro.

Not kissing ass or anything, just pointing that out. A wise man knows when to stop and reanalyze.

If you put blind faith into a person with a Phd, that is pretty lame.

I know Dr Astro gets aggressive often, but I see that is from dealing with mind numbing idiocy over and over again.

My last IQ test put me at 161, which doesn't prove shit.....but it does credit what I tell you.

And if you don't understand, that is simply because you are not any higher then 131 yourself.

I don't need to read the guys work to know shit doesn't orbit comets. At least not stuff over the size of an atom. That part I didn't read at first....but now, after re-reading I gotta say this much.....that McCanney is BSing for money.
 Quoting: --Voltaic--

IQ is a so subtle subject that I don't consider it for nothing.
I will forget about your friendship with Dr Astros. I will focus in only one point and is a question: why do you believe things cannot orbit comets at all?
 Quoting: glauco

 Quoting: --Voltaic--

So you are assuming that comets are little dirty snow balls, nothing else?
 Quoting: glauco

Composition of the object I did not state. But regardless, if ISON were Ice, Lead, a feather, a ball of plasma, a ball of yarn......it will not support orbits of objects large enough to be visible to us.

The real question you are rising is orbiting bodies around ISON. Regardless of composition, ISON is too small to have orbiting satellites.

And be realistic, a dirty snow ball can be almost anything in space. Dirty with what? Iron, sulfur, Space Monkey Seamen.........What is the ice? Water ice, methane or other common gas frozen solid?

The universe has many surprises waiting for us to discover, but it isn't behind or in proximity to comet ISON. ISON is simply going to do it's comet thing and hopefully provide a beautiful show soon.

Dr Astro, sure thing. I seek the mysterious yet I mentally plant myself in reality. One of the biggest faults of human intelligence is the ability to falsely rationalize a scenario or fact for unqualified personal gain.....and I resist the trap of false worship. I support others of like mind.

To OP: It's not always enough to stand corrected. Sometimes we need to avoided laying with lies, even if it satisfies our fantastical imagination.

And the rest, comet ISON will be a great comet. But not because of some silly conspiracy, rather it will be large and easily viewable under coincidental circumstances.

Re: BREAKING: Scientist claims comet ISON has companions!
Anyway, according to his theoretical work, this is already a planetary size comet. He made predictions in last October that the planet Earth would pass through a several storm conditions, including strong activity in the Sun and strong auroras in Earth in January 15 this year. I guess you knew from news that Earth and the Sun has had very active days from 14 to 15 January, do you agree? According to him, if this is a considerable sized comet, we would see such activities.

This is not coincidence, he did it a lot of times in the past, sometimes one year in advance with a lot of more information than this time. Just give him a chance.

Yes.

If you READ what mccanney has posted he says that he is qualifying his ideas that there MAY be companion objects, but he is not making any claims and that the disinfo agents are already out there trying to put words in his mouth.

Mccanny and Major Dames were the only two people who made correct projections about highly energetic effects IN ADVANCE during the years of the comets, 2003 - 2006.

Hoagland correctly projected effects of hyperdimentional physics but wasn't able to predict events.

Mccanney's plasma discharge model was proven correct multiple times in those years when multiple huge comets came through our system.

If ISON ends up being yet another comet with an estimated orbit of around 10,000 to 13,000 years then it is another in the comet stream that has been threatening us ever since Hale Bopp.
