When I was a kid we went to a World's Fair, and a group from Mexico put on a pageant which included a simulated Aztec human sacrifice.

I thought it was real.

Sad thing is... it probably was.... that's how they do it at Bohemian Grove....

there, they call it an 'effigy'... but if you hear the screams on YouTube... you KNOW it's real. yes...not joking

That banks were wonderful and helpful creations.

That the government wanted what was best for us and worked toward that end.

That KITT, the car from 'Knight Rider', really WAS the fastest car in the world and COULD JUMP OVER THINGS. :-)

That my grandfather was a good man, when in reality he was a child abusing pedophile. Also, that the Catholic Church was the one true church and faith. When I was surrounded by a bunch of hypocrites, going to church every Sunday, but in reality were alcoholic, abusive, pedophiles...you get the picture.

That I'd be a millionaire by the time I turned 40.

That someday, somehow, someone kind would find out all about the beating I was getting from my eldest sister and make it stop.

That Bugs Bunny, the Joker, Flash and Batman were all real... and that they all loved me.

... well, I still love all of them, up to now.

One was that if you sneezed with your eyes open your eyeballs would blow right out of your head ...
another was making a wish when you drove by a hay truck and holding your breath when passing a hearse those are the ones I remember off the top of my head anyway!

That if I worked hard and studied that my family would finally be proud of me when I graduated from college.

Quite the opposite! I found out several years later that they told no one that I had graduated. They left others in our small town with the impression that I had dropped out, or even worse had failed out of our large state university. I think that my education threatened them so much that they just couldn't work up the enthusiasm to ever say "Good Job". I married a military man and left the area after college. I have lived (mostly) happily ever after despite this early disappointment and lack of moral support from them.
