This is just a topic for consideration. During TMI programs Timeline and Starlines / SL2, doing in effect a remote viewing on 2020 and 2012, this item came up last round: something associated more with 2013, than 2012. I am not one to subscribe to prophesies and catastrophic hyperbole, and I am not stating this as such.

So Halcyon, first things first. Now i am identified with my nickname here on GLP, i'm not a bot and i want to be wrong when i say that this comet can be pulled by earth's magnetic field.

You say that magnetic fields in space are pretty damned weak and by that fact earth magnetic field didn't act like a magnet yet. TRUE!!!!!
Yet this rock isn't close enough to suffer from magnetic pull. Now... it will pass closer than some orbiting satellites, right? If these satellites stay in orbit farther away why can't this comet be pulled in when we can't say what is made of? I'm not a science guy so i don't know how to do that kind of math that you're suggesting me to do. If i knew that i would be here backgrounding you with more specific data or backgrounding the guys that are saying it will hit. If you read carefully what i wrote you will notice that i didn't said that this comet will hit us. But... there is a slightly chance that it could hit. Damn... it could even enter and leave our atmosphere due to it's mass and velocity! I take nothing for granted, that's for sure. My point is simple... i don't like fear mongers neither shills. Let's all look at this baby with a grain of salt shall we?

Just like gravity magnetism obeys the inverse square rule.
That means the intensity is inversely proportional to the square of the distance from the source of that force.
I.E. at double the distance the force has 1/4 the strength.

This thing is effected by Earth's magnetism at the same rate as by Earth's gravity whatever the distance.
The Sun has a magnetic field as well, btw.
So far this object has moved exactly like a free-falling object only effected by gravity would.


It is pulled in.
By Earth's gravity.
All the time.
Just not fast enough for it not to miss.

As pointed out above gravity doesn't just stop at a certain distance as some people seem to believe.
It goes on forever, at ever decreasing strength.

Celestial mechanics isn't some sort of arcane knowledge.
The calculations themselves can get complicated, but the principles are simple.
The only relevant force is gravity. Gravity doesn't care what you are made off. All atoms fall at the same rate.
And of course the gravity of Earth is taken into account.


Which leaves you with how much you trust the people that do.
Luckily it is a very large and diverse group.
