If you were a full-time employee (40 hours per week, 52 weeks a year) your annual salary was $6,968. The average household income was $17,000, so as a ratio the minimum wage earner made about 41% of that average household income. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7570540 Fast forward to 2012. Minimum wage of $7.25 for a full-time employee meant an annual salary of $15,080. The average household income was $50,000, so the ratio is 30%. Now, we all know that the middle class has been losing ground, but think about the poorest workers - they are losing ground to the middle class even! Some of you have your heads up your butts if you think those people don't deserve a raise. If you made the ratio equal to 1980, the minimum wage should be close to $10. You all bitch about people doing nothing and collecting entitlements, but there isn't much other choice for the untrained worker. Let's at least give them an incentive to work. You gripe about the rich getting richer on your backs but you want to boost yourselves on the backs of our poorest citizens. You are the same as the bankers and corporate CEOs but on a smaller scale - the intent is the identical - and that is to screw the little guy and collect more yourselves. Where are all of these jobs you want people to get? |

They struggled to pay the rent when it was $2.25. They struggled to pay the rent when it was $3.25. When it was $4.25. Etc., Etc. and today....people on minimum wage struggle to pay the rent. It will be the same if minimum wage is $400 an hour. The only thing it does is let them steal your savings through inflation. But certain idiots clap and applaud every single time as if they had just gotten Christmas!!! |

See that won't happen. And if they don't let some people go to balance the profit margin they will compensate instead. This will happen by reducing current employee hours to between 15-25 a week. Then they will hire part time employees to fill in the coverage gap, but only as many as they absolutely need. By doing this each employee will have a higher wage, but take in less with working less hours in a higher tax bracket. To top it off they will lose their benefits that they have. Essentially government titty sucking will become more rampant and they will have control over a large percentage of the food, health, housing, and utility needs of the lower to middle class. Everyone loses. It will mean now low skill workers, and the skilled workers have to work harder to take up the slack. It has already happened in many fields. Where I work, the low skilled workers now hold about half as many jobs as they used to. Employers just can't afford to pay low skill workers that much. The "evil employers" still have to make money. Very few could afford to lose money for very long. Raising the minimum wage blocks most young people from the work place. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. If its such a bad thing then why not lower the minimum..? When was the last time a pay level has been put up, and what roll on effect did it have. Will business owners fleece and use this as a means to justify a price hike and to sack individuals..? 11:11 |

There should be no minimum wage. Let the employer decide who is worth what. It doesn't mean the person has to work for them. An employer could start someone out at 7 bucks and hour and if they don't like them they can get rid of them without much cost to the employer. But if they do like them they could give them a raise to 9, 10, 11 etc bucks if they wanted to keep the person. Nine dollars an hour will just mean that a teen or someone with no experience will not be getting a job at all. Or there will be no raises unless the person is stellar. Or one person will now be doing the work of two or more. It is a bad deal which will cause more unemployment and raise prices. |

Those that understand economics know this means that less people will be working, less benefits, and additional costs on good and services. Ayatollah Khomeini: “Islam makes it incumbent on all adult males, provided they are not disabled and incapacitated, to prepare themselves for the conquest of [other] countries so that the writ of Islam is obeyed in every country in the world. But those who study Islamic Holy War will understand why Islam wants to conquer the whole world…. Those who know nothing of Islam pretend that Islam counsels against war. Those [who say this] are witless. Islam says: Kill all the unbelievers just as they would kill you all! Does this mean that Muslims should sit back until they are devoured by [the unbelievers]? Islam says: Kill them [the non-Muslims], put them to the sword and scatter [their armies]. Does this mean sitting back until [non-Muslims] overcome us? Islam says: Kill in the service of Allah those who may want to kill you! Does this mean that we should surrender to the enemy? Islam says: Whatever good there is exists thanks to the sword and in the shadow of the sword! People cannot be made obedient except with the sword! The sword is the key to Paradise, which can be opened only for Holy Warriors! There are hundreds of other [Koranic] verses and Hadiths [sayings of the Prophet] urging Muslims to value war and to fight. Does all that mean that Islam is a religion that prevents men from waging war? I spit upon those foolish souls who make such a claim.” |
