Re: weird phone calls
The other day my phone which is always plugged into its charger sitting next to me, didn't ring but the voice mail said out loud that I had a new voicemail message. My phone never rang, there was no voicemail on my phone and my history showed noone had called me. This had never ever happened before. My phone is set to go to voicemail only after many many rings, and whenever I get a call, even if it hangs up before my voicemail catches it will always show in my history.
My phone is new,and working perfectly so I don't know what happened that day.

Re: weird phone calls
OP is not lying. Same thing happened to me today around 5:45pm and lasted for about an hour. The same exact thing, random numbers calling me and when I would answer no one was there, and when I called them back they said they didn't call...it happened with both local and out of state calls. I was also told that people were trying to call me, but it wouldn't ring at all, and not even get my voicemail.

I live in Miami and have T-mobile btw.
 Quoting: Truth808

I too have T-Mobile. Something to do with the satellites.
 Quoting: MidWestLocated

I'm having this problem on t-mobile. I can't call out anywhere and I'm getting calls from strange numbers that I can't answer. Also can't get into my voicemail...
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6638540

Yes!! I'm on T-mobile and the calls were starting a little later than you. Assuming you meant 5:45 est. Mine started at 6:10 CST. I called all 3 back, the first one was because it was someone I thought I knew (work related) from Memphis (901 area code). When I called it rang for a few then just went dead. The second was 612 (Minneapolis) and when I called that back someone answered and mumbled something and hung up. The 3rd was a 623 area code (Phoenix about 6:21 cst) and I actually got the girl that answered to talk. She said she hadn't touched her phone in 30 minutes and that she did not call a 205 area code at all.

Crazy... I didn't have time to check tmobiles forums to see if people were reporting issues since my first assumption was that it was just an issue with their system. But, it seems that way

Need more Tmobile folks to chime in

a dude i know just posted this to his facebook

my mobile carrier is having a system glitch that is rerouting calls to other numbers.. resulting in a tremendous incoming call volume on my mobile mirroring an American Idol Vote tally. Such fun! I've gotten calls from all around the US in no time and met several new folks in the process of figuring it out. If you happen to be trying to reach me, I've shut it off while they're working on the system glitch. :)

It's not just a tmobile thing. I have verizon and happens to me all of the time. I even had my phone number changed hoping it would stop but nope, started right back up again. Just yesterday I had a missed call from an Ohio area code number and even one from Afghanistan once, no kidding! Every time I call the number back it goes to a residential line and the person said they never called me. I have even received texts from strangers saying things like "what are you doing?" and got several one morning from someone on the east coast threatening that they were going to report me to the better business bureau...made no sense whatsoever. My sister has had the same problem w/ the same crazy hispanic lady calling over and over again. Hmmmmmm......?

My experiences... Just one part of many...

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 16559732

First I'd say you're experiencing problems because you are using a cordless phone. Someone nearby might be using a frequency very close to yours or the exactly same. Possibly why someone else picked up your phone calls. That part 3 on youtube sounded like someone just off frequency to your cordless phone.

If you want to narrow down your problems get a wired phone and don't use the wireless for awhile and see where you stand after a few weeks..

Interesting to read this as yesterday I was at work (place was closed, I don't answer the phone) and the phone was ringing off the hook for an hour, to the point where I texted my boss to say she might want to call and check the messages. It stopped altogether after that. It was definitely an unusual pattern of calls for that place.

I can explain it. It's a call center. What they do is call you and put YOU on hold until one of their prisoners is available to speak with you.

Ok this is weird, I was just reading yahoo headlines, and this story came up and I remembered seeing this thread earlier. Look at this!

NYPD investigating 911 calls from Katie Couric's dead husband

Katie Couric has become the focus of one strange investigation.

The NYPD is probing a series of mysterious 911 calls apparently originating from a phone line registered to Couric's late husband, Jay Monahan.

Monahan died in 1998 after a battle with colon cancer. But, according to the New York Daily News, his phone dials 911 every Tuesday around 2 a.m. There have been at least 10 instances of the calls since last month, according to the Daily News.

Couric relayed the bizarre story to her studio audience during a commercial break this week. She says she asked NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly to investigate the matter.

Then about a month later My email was hacked from a specific area code/location in Missouri then 2 days in a row I got calls from the same area code in Missouri.

I answered and it was a guy we hadn't heard from in years! He said he was returning our call. It showed up on his phone. We hadn't called him of course, didn't even have his number in our phone!

I have lots of weird phone problems here but always blamed it on our govt rerouting calls and we found out that calls were rerouted to Israel (lawsuit after Revolution on that). But still happens, calling a person in address book and somebody else picks up, or getting a call with a strange number and it's someone in my contacts. Just this evening I received a text from someone in my address book saying "who is this?"

I texted her back saying who I was but that I neither texted nor called her.

A couple hours later I received the same text - "who is this?" - from another number not in my address book.

I am going to the ATT store tomorrow to see if I can find out anything. This has never happened before.

Yes...strange that she still has her husband's phone with the number. I didn't know that.

Interesting about the lawsuit regarding phone calls to Israel. That's really confusing to me....and also confusing is calling a person in your address book and somebody else picks up.

Come to live in the United States and get the phone calls from companies who want to reduce your credit card bills or give you a better price on your electric bill.

Then again, you might get a phone call with no one on the other end....just silence.

when my phone rings and i get the dead air open line i spit venom and vulgarity into the empty phone. i found bill collectors now run calling software that screens calls for real humans and not answering machine pickup.

maybe the software can't make up its program purpose to id a human voice and an answer machine voice so it stays silent

Interesting solution! I will occasionally get that sort of call, where it's just "open air". When that happens, I'll say "I'm so glad that you called, I want to talk to you about Jesus and how He has a plan for your personal salvation along with that of the whole rest of the World." Usually about then there's a click and then a dial tone.

Very annoying...but more annoying is if our lines get crossed or if you call someone and get constantly disconnected. weird stuff happening all the time but we are used to it here and never think much about it, except that it's annoying. I think it has to do with overload on lines and satellites problems (plus probably the rerouting of listening in on our calls). ;)

I've been with Verizon for 10 years, I've never had this problem before. I don't answer calls from numbers I don't recognize. I live in Utah. As of Monday, my phone has been for me non-stop in calls that I don't recognize.. and many Unavailable. Looking up the phone numbers, they come from Phoenix - AZ, OHIO, Penn, Maryland, etc. On Monday and Tuesday, i received calls Unavailable every 30 mins from 7:30 am to 5:30pm. Now, I'm receiving phone calls from numbers that I don't recognize from Utah as well.

I answer, and there is no one there. And no one ever leaves a message from those calls.

WTF?wtf
