Hell, I got arrested for a DUI and possession of marijuana 16 years ago, and still won't get hired because of background checks. I'm white and all for it.

this is great! They always say employers are not supposed to discriminate when hiring and this was always the un written exception. Hogwash.......EVERYONE makes mistakes in life. EVERYONE diserves a second chance.

If one has served their time and paid their debt to society, the stigma should end. Otherwise, ex-cons will have little choice but to return to a life of crime.

IN NC that shit will stay on your record for the rest of your life, even after you have served your time. Makes it hard to find a good job. I knew a lot of guys who have spent time in the hoosegow. Some of them come out and get their disability, others try to get their lives back together. But this state is fucked up. They penalize you fro everything you have ever done,it seems.

I do believe people can change and that there are some decent people that just f'd up and are trying hard to get it together. But employers do background checks to weed out felons because of LAWYERS. How can an employer know if they have the real deal type of person who is really trying to live straight and when they have the person who will rape an employee or slap a customer or rob them blind? They can't know this, so for liability issues alone, they have to weed them out. If there is an incident and the victim/s sue and it is found that the guy knowingly hired a felon and put everyone at risk, his business will be destroyed by the damages he will have to pay out.

I mean, what are business owners to do? They're fucked either way. Which, I'm guessing, is the goal. If it's impossible to do business due to the never-ending catch-22 rules/regs, you won't have private-owned businesses.

I agree with that. I'm not a felon, but they don't hire you for misdemeanors either. Jobs are slim pickings nowadays, so you're screwed even if you got busted for pot 20 years ago. I say we do as the UK does. After 7 years, your record is sealed unless you get in trouble again, felons excluded.

If I were an employer, I would not want to hire anyone who committed a crime that harmed an innocent person. Though I would consider it if the crime was not particularly heinous, occurred many years ago, and reputable people could vouch that the person had truly cleaned up his act.

And I would not have any problems with hiring someone who got busted for committing a victimless crime.

What about someone who got busted because his wife made up that he punched her..etc.. Have a friend in that predicament. Women can get away with anything nowadays. MGOTW. That's where you start.

That has never been the problem. A business owner should be able to hire whom ever he chooses. Obama is trying to legislate behavior ... it never as worked. So an employer can refuse to hire you for the color of your hair but not for your character? These decisions should be free of threat, especially from a douche like Holder, and the person offering the position should get to hire the best applicant for the task. Be a felony bank robber or embezzler and make application at Brinks Armored Car Service. They probably won't tell you your past is keeping you from being employed there .. but it will, and they won't care if you are traumatized or not.

There's always a way out.
