That would have to be one kick ass tracking system to pull that off.

It could be a simple automatic missle defence system, pretty sure heat seeking missles would be able to track it, however that missle would have to hauling ass, but if you thing about it it would have to be capeable of this if it wants to intercept warheads that are fired from space.

Looks like that "missile" came from behind.
I had no idea we have missiles that can travel at 20,000 miles and hour inside of our atmosphere....
