radio blacked out today for me while driving at around that time. thought nothing of it, just thought it was a glitch. went totally dead.

SpeaceWeather.com

"Coronagraph images from the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) show a CME emerging from the blast site. The expanding cloud should hit Earth's magnetic field during the early hours of April 13th, possibly sparking geomagnetic storms and auroras. Aurora alerts:"

So, how did it already effect radio transmissions, as the original link states?

you´re very welcome! this is at least a bit of doom besides all that NK-not-happening-doom ;)
 Quoting: Doomina

WIth ya. The way the CNET article, well post, reads, sort of creates this platform of possibilities, which sort of came out of nowhere. Indeed M-class flares are not that bad, but here we are, getting force fed the doom. Rather interesting.

Side thought and very much a side dish perhaps for many - that quote that it may effect satellites and the likes --- perfect 'excuse' or better said, cover, to take out that Korean satellite.

the funny thing is, i now have an explanation why my wifi at home was slightly interrupted today (router all well connected to provider, no net fail at all, just the wifi). was in that time window as well.

edit:

just another thought:
msm were talking about a possible emp for so long now. did they know sun was going to erupt ? and that´s why all those solar websites down ? that we don´t see _why or how_ it happens?

A little M Flare is nothing to start calling doom worthy. Call me when the sun pops off a X25+

Bullshit it would. We got hit with M class flares all year last year. Hell we even survived an X28 class flare in 2003. This is more false doom, don't believe anything you hear on this website

Will keep an eye on this one, the IMF is pointing south atm,
more effects on Earth likely.

"If the IMF points south -- a condition scientists call "southward Bz" -- then the IMF can partially cancel Earth's magnetic field at the point of contact."

rockon

"The impact of radiation storms and geomagnetic storms do not directly threaten life on Earth, although there can be consequences for our high-tech society. The Earth’s magnetic field and thick atmosphere deflects and mops up the radiation and high-energy particles from the sun, but radiation storms can cause fluctuations in the electron content of the ionosphere, one of the uppermost regions of the atmosphere. This can interfere with planet-wide radio communications. Also, when the CME hits, and if the magnetic conditions are right, vast electrical currents can be induced through the atmosphere, potentially impacting regional electrical grids. Also, satellites are vulnerable in the high-energy space weather environment."
