My husband is the primary breadwinner, and he hasn't had a raise in eight years. It's getting progressively more difficult to survive, let alone get ahead. I'm just ridiculously grateful when we make it to the next paycheck with a few bucks left.

Both myself and my wife are making less money for different employeers than we were 5 years ago. Thank God, we have paid off the house. So, we have less income, but we have less outgo too.

We use to spend any extra income on toys and entertainment. Now we spend anything left over on extra food and long term survival supplies.

I'm hanging on, but just barely. My ex finally got a job a month ago, after being unemployed for a year. Both of us are making less than we used to, but at least we have jobs and for that we are grateful.

But rising costs mean what we make doesn't go as far as it used to.

Agree on rich, especially self made rich are the ones who should be "giving back" by removing the corruption in our system (vs. folks who inherited or married wealth who are really in the crony ethics group).

2009 is not old for a car.
Your house is not an investment, your 50% loss is just the cost of overpaying for your housing during the bubble. It's a bummer but that's life.

My husband is several years older than me with a daughter from his first marriage in college.

She has majored in Psychology??!! WTF??!! After graduating May 2014, she plans to move to LA to try to become an actress.

I have made it very clear to her that she is responsible for her own decisions & must live within her means. She did not have to work in college & could have majored in Engineering, Medicine, whatever -- something that could provide employment & a living wage.

I had to work my way through school so the whole thing just really pisses me off.

What does this have to do with the thread?

We have a generation of clueless, pampered brats who reached adulthood during the housing boom. They think the world will just fall at their feet. When things are not just so for them, they will be voting for every POS that promises them sunshine, rainbows, unicorns & a basket of freebies -- they have no concept that free lunches are paid for by someone.

Will we ever have another responsible govt? I do not feel hopeful.
