The axis mundi (also cosmic axis, world axis, world pillar, columna cerului, center of the world, world tree), in religion or mythology, is the world center or the connection between Heaven and Earth. As the celestial pole and geographic pole, it expresses a point of connection between sky and earth where the four compass directions meet.[citation needed] At this point travel and correspondence is made between higher and lower realms. Communication from lower realms may ascend to higher ones and blessings from higher realms may descend to lower ones and be disseminated to all. Within the central known universe a specific locale-often a mountain or other elevated place, a spot where earth and sky come closest-gains status as center of the center, the axis mundi. High mountains are typically regarded as sacred by peoples living near them. Shrines are often erected at the summit or base.

Three of the most significant imaginary lines running across the surface of the Earth are the equator, the Tropic of Cancer, and the Tropic of Capricorn. While the equator is the longest line of latitude on the Earth (the line where the Earth is widest in an east-west direction), the tropics are based on the sun's position in relation to the Earth at two points of the year. All three lines of latitude are significant in their relationship between the Earth and the sun.
The equator is located at zero degrees latitude. The equator runs through Indonesia, Ecuador, northern Brazil, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Kenya, among other countries. The Tropic of Cancer and The Tropic of Capricorn
The Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn each lie at 23.5 degrees latitude. The Tropic of Cancer is located at 23.5° North of the equator and runs through Mexico, the Bahamas, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, India, and southern China. The Tropic of Capricorn lies at 23.5° South of the equator and runs through Australia, Chile, southern Brazil (Brazil is the only country that passes through both the equator and a tropic), and northern South Africa.

The tropics are the two lines where the sun is directly overhead at noon on the two solstices - near June and December 21. The sun is directly overhead at noon on the Tropic of Cancer on June 21 (the beginning of summer in the Northern Hemisphere and the beginning of winter in the Southern Hemisphere) and the sun is directly overhead at noon on the Tropic of Capricorn on December 21 (the beginning of winter in the Northern Hemisphere and the beginning of summer in the Southern Hemisphere).
The reason for the location of the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn at 23.5° north and south respectively is due to the axial tilt of the Earth. The Earth is titled 23.5 degrees from the plane of the Earth's revolution around the sun each year.

The area bounded by the Tropic of Cancer on the north and Tropic of Capricorn on the south is known as the "tropics." This area does not experience seasons because the sun is always high in the sky. Only higher latitudes, north of the Tropic of Cancer and south of the Tropic of Capricorn, experience significant seasonal variation in climate.

Sundering of Metaphysical and Physical

In many creation stories the universe is humid and formless prior to a god separating the universe into various components, creating additional gods, and later creating human beings. The first four verses of biblical Genesis present just one of many versions of first creation stories developed by cultures around the world. Genesis 1:1 states in the beginning God sundered the universe into two parts: the heavens (non-material, metaphysical, such as consciousness) and the earth (material, physical, such as Earth). There is an untold amount of sundering happening in those stories, and it must occur across the universe before humans arrive on Earth. Yet the first verse of Genesis identifies immediately the two most fundamental items filling the cosmos: non-material energy and material energy made manifest as earthen waters. Recognition of energy and matter (material) as fundamental constituents of the universe was primal to the people who developed the biblical story of Creation.

So it remains today as scientists work to bring together the theory of relativity and quantum mechanics together as a ‘theory of everything’. That theory must address the physics of the macrocosmic and microcosmic where, in each case, the fundamental units of mass and energy – the electron and photon – have affected evolution of the universe since the ‘big bang’ 13.7 billion years ago.

Prologue: What is experience?

Experience results from the transmission of energy from one location to another location, or one time to another time. Therefore experience as an effect of geometrical energy events communicated through space and time. In other words, energy at one point, at one location at a particular time, moves in some manner to another location and time. This energy wave can be expressed by a given physical parameter (such as mass, light energy, heat energy, information, and so forth) and direction that changes as an effect of other relationships (energy events) before it arrives at its destination.

This means that communication moving from one event (sender) to another (receiver, or yourself) can be represented as a vector in space and time. Therefore the communication can always be interpreted in terms of geometry. In our minds we form a picture from this energy transmitted between us. The message may be one of sound, light, smell, taste or touch. It is sensed, interpreted and symbolized. This is experience.


Experience is the effect of interrelated geometrical energy events in space and time.
