Look...I get it. Linux is not for everyone...Yet. This is not a thread about M$ vs Linux.

I just wanted to publicly extol the current state of Linux. Specifically Linux Mint. Even more specifically Linux Mint 17 KDE.

I want to stress to EVERYONE reading this, that there is not ONE SINGLE piece of software that I ran in Windows that doesn't run Flawlessly in Linux.

Granted there are times where I have to research. For instance. Getting Falcon BMS 4.32 to run I needed to disable "triple buffering" in the in game configuration in order to get it to run. But that was a five minute Google search followed by a 30 second setting change and viola.

In fact..my favorite game X3TC on Steam runs better and smoother in Linux than in Windows.

The only reason I mention this is because do many say..If Linux just ran my games I would switch.

Well it does. Of course sometimes a little research is required..but the community is so incredibly helpful the solution is just a thread away.

Now forget games...Linux does everything thing else (almost everything else) better.

Internet browsing..office..email..gpg..pgp..etc etc.

If you have been on the fence about trying it, please just give it a shot.

You can literally "Test Drive" any Linux Distribution without making ANY changes to your current O.S. install.

There is literally ZERO downside.

Just saying. If it's not for you...No big deal. I understand if you want to stay with Windows. I don't even fault you for that choice. So please, don't flame here for those who might try Linux.

Cheers.

Made the switch to Ubuntu proper years ago, and will never go back.

The recent versions of wine and playonlinux work incredubly well.

Definitely. Playinlinux is nothing short of amazing. That is EXACTLY how I have gotten EVERY single piece of software to run perfectly.

People...give it a try!!

I will still keep a boot of Windows just in case...but M$ should be shaking in their "boots". Get it? Boots...

Any how I actually hope Linux doesn't go too much mainstream. I love it exactly as it is. If too many people start jumping on board it may invite hackers to start focusing efforts on Linux

Mint is awesome. I am running it with Mate. I used to be a Gnome guy, but they screwed the pooch with Gnome 3. I don't care much for Cinnamon either.

LOL. Most people here got no idea what a partition is.

Be careful about what you say. The Union might try to ban Linux.

Obama has already made a speech about the dangers of formating your hard drive. Any attempt to remove NSA spyware will result in 25 years prison and 1,000,000 fine.

Rumors are circulating on Twittard that Linus is under house arrest for producing code that hasn't been licensed by the Union Cybersecurity Agency.

Nahh, i dont agree with you.
You just need to know how to configure Windows for optimization.

Same as you do with Linux.
I guess its still a matter of taste.

This is pclinuxos.

I've tried many distro's and there are only 2 that were stable and worked well, that is pclinux, which is way better than mandriva, and mint linux. And like kde best as well.

I had world of warcraft playing through wine, not the play on linux, for years.

You are living in the past. There are lots of live distros that you can run from CD or USB stick.

AND with most processors nowadays supporting virtualization in hardware you can run more than one OS simultaneously at close to native speed.

One thing about the newer Mints, they don't always play nice on older machines. I have a Pentium 4 machine that I ran older versions of Mint on with no problems. When I loaded 17 on it, it would load up to the desktop, but I couldn't do anything. A Google search finally gave me the reason. Mint doesn't like older video cards. So you might have to update the video to get it to work.

Once linux can emulate flawlessly all my windows apps, then I will move to Linux. Windows 10 is nothing but spyware. Win 7 last good OS MS will ever have made.

LOL again. You want a decent speed running off USB or CD?
And when most people don't know what a partition is, you want them to set up a VM?
