Why are Teachers paid so poorly?

I guess they need to move to California. Teachers make a good wage there.

Good question, most of us pay 'education' taxes so they sould be making bank.

No point paying a good wage to teach people who won't have jobs. You can pay shite for that, it won't matter. Besides, we're all going to kill each other off within this next generation.

They need to be paid less.

Because tax dollars are better spent on sports and new stadiums like in chincongo.

The cost of living is extremely high in California, though. And the taxes out there are absolutely ridiculous. The average salary for a teacher in Southern California is 51,000 a year.

They aren't. They keep beginner teacher pay low so that they can complain how bad teachers are paid and fool people like you, but after a few years, they're reeling it in.

My SIL and BIL get about 72K a year in retirement pensions.

Because of Liberals. If teachers didnt receive so much in pensions then perhaps we could hike up their wages. Democrats could care less about education

Because the vast majority of them aren't teachers...they're indoctrination instructors.

There's very few actual "teachers" anymore.

They get paid plenty considering they don't work a full day, get weekends off, and every possible holiday, snow day, and how many months???? Chritmas and new years = two weeks, two weeks for spring break, two weeks for fall break, three months for summer break...fuck they hardly work at all!

Plus they are lazy and send the kids home with homework instead of getting it done during class time! Fuck the lazy teachers!

Because they work maybe 6 months of a year.

Teachers in fact get paid exhorbitant piles of cash, and get a three month paid vacation every year.

All that, to make damn good and sure your child becomes a troll for the state.

Teachers SUCK.

Bingo....in VT they refuse to contribute to their health care like the rest of us working people do, every year demand raises and they have pensions. Don't even get me started on tenure .....you can't get rid of bad teachers.

Because they are useless to society, they serve only the interests of a decadent state.
The only true education is self-education, that which comes from the home and is enhanced by experience. Schools are useless.

In Oregon they start at decent but Low wage. In a short time they get tenure, really good benefits, with many making 70k plus. Keep in mind they also work maybe 7/8 months a year. I don't care they have to do "continuing education training". So do I. They also get post grad education paid, and of course after the district pays for most or all of it, they get paid even more. I agree with the previous poster, they complain about the low beginning wage but hey that is with most jobs. I would love to get paid year round and get three months off, all federal holidays, two week Christmas, oh sorry winter break, one week spring break, snow days, in service days PLUS some sick days! Now throw in retiring at early as 50-55 years old making a good pension and medical benefits. Boo hoo.

Any idiot can teach a child? To be a professor you probably need a doctorates degree. Professors are paid more when they seek higher education in their professional degree. It takes a genius to teach a young adult. I don't see a kindergarten teacher making $100,000 for teaching children in her class. But I understand if schools are in short supply of teachers they might wanna raise the salary a little bit and make classrooms bigger. Plus schools lack discipline in punishing children for bad behavior. The administration does not care.

Their school day is from 7:45am to 3:00pm but Teachers always say that they grade papers after they get off of work, so their work day actually doesnt end until around 6 or 7pm.

And they have to attend a ton of meetings both with the school board and a bunch of helicopter parents

They make like $25 an hour.

They are not grading papers every day and working till 7 o'clock. Perhaps some days. I attend weekly meetings, you all probably attend meetings as well. How many of you get to say you need a raise because it is "for the kids" bs. I am not saying the job is without challenge and frustration, all I am saying they are not underpaid, and when you consider they only work for 7/8 months and of the year they have no right to complain. All of this with a 60 percent graduation rate. Unions have destroyed the public educational system. By the way I am a union member.

Actually, they are paid too much and are doing what the PARENTS are responsible for.

Why do people complain about what teachers make.. become teachers.. then act amazed that they don't make what they consider enough?

2/3rd of teachers quit by their 5th year. They might get a lot of breaks but they pretty much have no power or control. The school systems are obliged by standardized test scores in order to receive proper funding.

Do you consider $51,000 a year for a 190 day work contract "enough"
