102 comets crashing into the sun in (lets round up) 5 years is about 20 per year ... means 1.66.. per month ... so far we experience nothing unusual, I say we are a bit behind the statistic even.

Heinrich Carl Friedrich Kreutz (1854-1907), when investigating the orbits of comets, discovered a group of sun-grazing comets, now called Kreutz group, which has its origin probably in the destruction of a once much larger celestial body (Kreutz 1888, 1891, 1901).
As expected for such a case, the member comets of the Kreutz group all have similar orbital elements. With the help of satellites observing the Sun, in particular SOHO, a large number of new Kreutz group comets has been discovered in recent years, reaching 475 member comets as of October 31, 2002, and a continuing stream of discoveries can be expected for the future. Also, at least three more comet groups have been discovered recently, two of them by amateur astronomers (Meyer 2003).

Most of this amazing number are suicidal comets that vaporize as they plunge into the solar atmosphere.



PLEASE learn just a little about real astronomy before showing your vast ignorance for all to see.

Of course they discover more comets ... you should cross-check a graphic on how many devices we sent up to research space in the same timeframe and it will show pretty much the same graphic.

Isn't it logical (even to you !) that the more you look the more you discover ?

The only reason that the numbers go up like that is advancing technology. Up until the advent of CCD imaging, most amateur astronomers couldn't search for asteroids. I know a couple amateur astronomers who do nothing but "rock hunting" (that's what one of them calls it).

Also, the numbers climbed like that because of the Near Earth Asteroid Program which coordinated all of the diverse programs that look for asteroids.

It's just like that with earthquake numbers - there are more and more seismographs stations in operation than there were decades ago - more stations, more low intensity earthquakes detected. If it was for seismographs installed in some areas, thousands upon thousands of low intensity earthquakes wouldn't even be noticed.

Comets have been hitting the Sun as long as we have been watching the Sun in enough detail to see the event, and long before.

Just because YOU are ignorant it does not follow that anything is out of the ordinary.

Why don't you take a look at the night sky over the course of several months and watch the constellations progress through the sky and then explain how Earth can be halted in orbit if the constellations are moving as they should. Or does your master forbid you from doing that sort of thing? Meanwhile, 2012 is getting closer and closer with "Planet X" still be a no show. And lately, your master has had to start back pedaling about her claims that the "pole shift" would happen before 2012...even going so far as to say that there could be another "white lie." How many "white lies" are you going to believe? Will you stand by your word and admit that Nancy is wrong in 2012 when it still hasn't shown up? Or will you weasel out of it?
