Its not even about the tax it is about the total package. The US energy policy is about consumption. We needed a certain consumption level to meet middle eastern purchases so the middle east would hold their end by buying US treasuries with the bulk of the money. Of course we would renig after a couple of decades, We limit domestic production to a trickle in anticipation for the dollar devaluation and send the Arabs and Persians back to riding camels in the desert. Oil is much higher now 200+ Dollars/Barrel. Our stupid saviors open the massive domestic wells and continue to charge 200+ barrel getting filthy rich. Europe get much better milage because they pay out their arse for fuel. If you own the car companies and the oil companies why would you offer so much good mileage as to destroy your oil company. Its all an illusion. Wake up. |

We all know what drives these decisions. We all know why tax dollars have been misappropriated, funneled, lost and manipulated. When you couple Power and Greed together, no good ever comes out. |

That's not the point. Why aren't these cars available in the US? Our high fuel prices are due to tax. You just answered your own question.. think about it. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1500980 [link to pesn.com] no article debunks the video... go to VW's uk site... they post the mpg's there. you can use a simple conversion calculator to do the math. vw has one vehicle that gets 70 mpg on the highway per a US gallon. also, they do not pollute more... what tptb try to con people on is CO2 gasses which are not pollution. otherwise these cars burn cleaner than their us counter parts because the use half the fuel amount. DUHHHHHHHHHH!!! wake up sheeple. |

Just putting this out there. I've been checking into moving to Uruguay and 9 times out of 10 my american made car will not make it past customs. Even a new one. Perhaps your vehicle is not accepted in Uruguay because it is too new or will cause you to stick out like a sore thumb and it would be safer to blend in by driving a vehicle manufactured or readily imported by Uruguay/. February 10, 1969 Uruguay Says Olé To Cars Among the 4,500 Model A Fords that to this day throb in geriatric contentment along the streets and roads of the little car-conserving South American country of Uruguay, there is one in Montevideo that is a particularly fine autumnal beauty. A lean and modest open touring car, it has been refinished in the gleaming maroon that it was born with 39 years ago in Detroit, but, barring tires, all its parts are original, even the unblemished chrome radiator. It was thus a pity, one day lately, when a freak, accident crumpled the shell of one of the headlights. After a moment's distress, though, the owner perked up and set out to scavenge an identical headlight from one of the city's auto junkyards. He failed to reckon the full measure of Uruguay's claim to fame as the world's leading border-to-border museum of living, breathing antique cars. "A 1930 Ford A!" exclaimed the junkman. "We haven't had any cars that new brought in here yet!" [link to sportsillustrated.cnn.com] Uruguay Country Specific Information [link to www.travel.state.gov] |

DUHHHHHHHHHH!!! wake up sheeple. CO emissions are not the only standard NO emissions are the ones that cut fuel mileage It is all politics and $$$$ as the adding of ethanol actually produces more emissions due to the reduction of mileage per gallon as well as emission of aldehydes which are not regulated and far worse for us and the environment. |

The 70+mpg TDIs are 10% more pollutant per gallon, but half as pollutant per mile, when compared to their gasoline counterparts. Roads are (re)built via gasoline taxes, so going all super high fuel efficiency will leave most states broke and unable to maintain the road infrastructure. Or so their myth goes. thats the key here... half as pollutant per mile. and get this.. its not about the taxes... thats just a small part of it. in order for the communists to completely take over this country... they need to weaken us to the point we are consumed with survival. this is all about conquest. |

I guess we could throw then in the ocean?? |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 7965691 Canada 05/09/2012 12:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Bear in mind, the gallons are different in the US compared to UK and everywhere else. 1 Imperial gallon = 1.2 US gallons. That will account for some of the difference. Also, the USA models have 2.0 litre "clean diesel" engines, european have 1.6 litre "bluemotion". Besides fuel efficiency, the other difference is power. American cars always have torqy, more powerful motors because that's what sells. People would get into a typical 1.2 litre european car and compare it to a 2.4 litre USA car and say the other one sucked. Americans don't mind burning gas and will buy bigger motors, hence why everyone still drives big SUVs. In Europe, everyone drives tiny cars. I'd say it's not a government conspiracy, but just marketing. If all people started buying only fuel efficient cars in USA, gas taxes would go up to pay for the roads - just like it is in Europe. So, no conspiracy, just simple economics and marketing. |
